Thanks for that EE, the link was interesting, as it brought to light players I had forgot about, mainly Foster, I could never forget the Essex answer to Anthony McGrath, one D Pringle.

What a deadly duo

At that time, there was no better balanced bowling attack in county cricket.

Del Boy Pringle couldnt cut it at test level, but just check his FC record.

Foster was a decent performer for England, his knees meant he retired early from first class cricket

Yes i could my friend Ern. I think every state in Australia would beat Warwickshire.
  • South Australia: Gillespie and Tait opening the bowling, one is one of the worlds best, the other a rising star. Dan Cullen is an up and coming spinner and Graham Manou has done a great job with the gloves. As for the batting, Darren Lehmann is a brilliant first class player, Greg Blewett is an excellent campaigner and Mark Cosgrove is a star in the making.
  • Western Australia: Adam Gilchrist, Damien Martyn and Justin Langer are all Australian regulars and 3 of the best players in the side. Easily takes care of the batting. Brad Williams bowls with fearsome pace and Micheal Clark (no, not that Micheal Clarke), is a good opening bowler. Brad Hogg is a ODI regular. Murray Goodwin is a superb batsman.
  • Victoria: Reigning Champs. Cameron White is a bona fide star of the future. Has been taking wickets lately with his leg spin and batting has improved in leaps and bounds. Brad Hodge and Matthew Elliot are proven stars in the domestic format and Elliot has performed reasonably for Australia. Shane Warne- does anything more need to be said??? Dave Hussey is experiencing a bad patch but is all class. Jon Moss is also very good. Matthew Inness and Mick Lewis have answered their new ball responsibilites well.
  • New South Wales: When at full strength the best state in Australia by a long way. Micheal Clarke, Glenn McGrath, Brett Lee, Nathan Bracken, Stuart MacGill, Matthew Nicholson and Brad Haddin are the Australian representatives in the side. Jaques is a very good up and coming batsman and Dominic Thornely is also an up and comer and this side has four genuine new ball options. McGrath would open with Lee for mine however. This side sure has matured from the days of Richie Chee Quee. Would murder Warwickshire
  • Queensland: Another exceptional state in Australia. Have alot of players in the national side or on the fringes. Matthew Hayden is the standout in the side. One of the best players in the world on his day would take to shreds Warwickshire's attack. Martin Love is an exceptional cricketer, both here and in England and has had success for Australia. Jimmy Maher is still a great state cricketer even if he isn't playing for Australia anymore. Michael Kasprowicz and Andy Bichel are two best mates who share the new ball. Bichel could still play for Australia but after a lean trot the selectors decided a change was needed. Kasper has performed admirably for Australia. James Hopes is a good all rounder in prospect and Wade Seccombe is a seasoned campaigner.
  • Tasmania: Have a domestic star in Michael Bevan, the best player in the competition at the moment. Michael DiVenuto, Michael Dighton and Travis Birt are all capable, the two former being experienced players with run scoring abilities. A shame that Blignaut has left but anyway. Sean Clingeleffer has disappeared and Dawson looks good behind the stumps. With the ball, Damien Wright is unlucky to have not played for Australia yet. Adam Griffith is also a good opening partner. Dan Marsh is the "Star" player if you like. The chunky captain is a brilliant cricketer. Xavier Doherty is a prospect with the ball, bowling left-arm spinners. Oh, and did I mention somebody else? Yes, the Aussie captain of course. Ricky Ponting is the X-Factor.
Sorry, Ern, but i reckon every state would beat Warwickshire.

Is this the same Tait that had bowling figures of 12-0-123-0 and 6-0-63-0 in his first 2 bowling efforts for Durham !!!?

Michael Clarke had a distinctly average season for Hampshire too

Michael Clarke had a poor average mainly because he was playing at the Rose Bowl. Also, you can't always expect fireworks in a young overseas player's first year in England.

Yep I remember watching Foster, he was a very good bowler, but like you say his knees went early in his career, McGrath was another story.

But I used to take my radio to bed, and it was a one dayer against New Zealand some years ago, and he was the demon bowler that night.
