I would have been here a long time ago if I'd known there was a php bb for cricket fans.

But the antediluvian software was not my main reason for leaving the BBC board. It was the arbitrary and insulting behaviour of the moderators and hosts.

I posted under my real name - Clive Wilshin - but I thought I'd try out a new handle over here.

Glad to see many familiar names and hope to get stuck into things in the next few days!

Oh - BIG thanks to Ryan Backside for managing to get his hints as to the url for this place past the BBC thought police long enough for me to work it out!

By the way, how long has this place been going?
Nice to see you Clive. We're all here. Except, for now, Sundaram.

Welcome, Clive. The BBC mods have said that the boards will be upgraded to new software in the future. Hopefully, they will use it to weed out the troublemakers. Once they have the situation under control over there we should look at the possibility of posting on both sites. To find out when this board started you can go to the Member List and see that I joined on 25/02/04. I should put the Forum start date somewhere on the Home/Index page.

Mike, just to massage my ego, how many posts did we get to before the thread was split? Works been busy so my presence has been hit and miss.

Just how fast is BBC message board going down hill (19&20/04/04) 45 posts

Just how fast is BBC message board going down hill (21/04/04) 105 posts

Just how fast is BBC message board going down hill (22/04/04) 23 posts

County news (split from BBC thread) 13 posts

Grand Total: 186 posts.

Hi RBLC, I just wanted to split off the last few posts which referred to the county topic but the SPLIT function didn't work properly for me. It seems to have a limit on the amount of posts it displays from a thread that can be selected to split off. The whole thread wasn't available to choose from. Another problem was that it seems to reorder the posts out of time sequence which I didn't realize. It took sometime to get it back in order of post time. As you can see, the BBC thread is now in 3 parts by date. I may put the pieces back together once the thread is cold.

Clive

I was going to point you to another thread further down the list that has hints to where this board is - but before I could reply to your post they removed it !

What worries me a little is that some of the nonsense posters are starting to wonder where this other board is now!

But welcome.

Scott

The thing is Scott, Mike doesnt have to follow any left wing mission statement or have any world image to promote. If a few complaints come in over certain posters I think he'll ban them. Look at vinoth in the banned posts section. Everyone knows who the bad apples are on the beeb and mike will not put up with the same rubbish. He'll give them a chance though I think.

Not entirely true. I never complained about any of those people who laid into me, as I am quite capable of handling myself. I quite enjoyed arguing with them, actually. I don't even mind Sundaram, as I never made the mistake of entering into an earnest conversation with him. I did quite enjoy being equally snide back to him as he is about England!

I "threw a wobbly" when a message of mine (on the British Asians thread) that took me about 30 mins to type, in which I went out of my way to be sensitive, liberal-minded, and courteous, was removed with the implication that I had posted it in order to be deliberately offensive. Other posts of mine had already been removed without even the usual email explaining why. Meanwhile, another post on the same thread describing Nasser Hussain in quite offensive tones had been allowed to stand (for the record, I think the mods had no business deleting either post).

In my temper, I then did complain about a few of the worst posts that had been allowed to stand. One of them was the "Bye bye Clive" thread. It was removed with an e-mail telling me that they agreed it broke house rules. The second was also a "Bye bye Clive" thread. I had an e-mail telling me it had been allowed to stand as it did not break house rules! This, within minutes of each other!

So you see it was basically the ridiculous, completely arbitrary, and wholly incompetent moderators and hosts that caused me to throw in the towel. The only message from another poster which really did annoy me was the good riddance message from Don - after I stood up for him when someone suggested he should be banned from the board!
