Pleased that England made a competitive total, disappointed things went a bit awry for them towards the end of the innings. I reckoned they would make around about 280 or just over, I was hoping they would make 300+ but they didn't quite make it and suspect they would have done had Freddy not fallen to a 'jammy, flukey clown juggler catch' - very dissapointing! I sense that fluke catch just kept the WI's in this game. Some interesting records tumbled though - Tresco made the top score on that ground, and the top score of any England batsman in an ODI in the WI's. England's total was also the highest ever at the ground. Scott |

I reserve the right to criticise any player that in my opinion is not performing, and I have stated on this board quite openly on several occasions that no-one would be happier to see Trescothick make some big scores and put some runs on the board than I. I don't hope that Trescothick 'fails' just so I can be vindicated - my only interest is in seeing England perform to the potential I know they have. I have only ever criticised Trescothicks form in Test Matches, I have never to my knowledge made any comment on his form in ODI's, so I don't really understand your need to make the 'jibes' that you do. I was delighted to see Trescothick get some form back and play the way we all know he can when he gets his 'eye' in and without a doubt his superb display of 'power hitting' in this ODI will go a long way in helping England to win this ODI match, which in my mind they will. Just be courteous enough, as I am, to acknowledge that other people may have opinons that differ to my own. Scott |

The Sky commentators commented on this quite recently. Apparently Lara has stated that he was unhappy with the 'inexperience' in his lower/middle order, so has dropped himself down to help add experience to it, whilst giving the less experienced players the opportunity to bat higher up the order and to 'get some experience' at the crease. I'm not commenting on this - just relaying what the commentators were discussing. I also think WI will lose this match, unless they start ramping up the pace and put some runs on the board quickly. I simply don't understand why the WI persevere with Ricardo Powell, they guy just looks 'clueless' to me, a high strike rate he may have, but he never realises his potential and rarely converts any starts to decent scores. His mid/high 20's average pretty much sums him up in my mind. Scott |
