OK I've come late to this thread. I've had a bit of a read and now it's time to shoot from the hip.
Greg Matthews (Aus) - couldn't stand the man. There's a ghastly floopy haired current picture of him on an Australian cricket site. Interesting considering how bald he was when he was playing.
But more for that, in low simplicity...he was a smug bas***d.
In an old-fashioned ODI where everyone was wearing whites a couple of decades back, I remember him bowling his peculiarly rubbish off-breaks (I think) at one I.T.Botham.
The big man - obviously sharing my own feelings - launched the most massive straight drive which was just about to cleanly remove Matthews' head when he managed to get his hand in the way.
He caught it. Good job. But I was ********** off for more than one reason with that dismissal.
Alec Stewart - went to spend a couple of winters in Aus., on the advice of some learned former cricketer.
Turned him from an adequate county player into an arguably World Class batsman. Crap keeper, who convinced all cricket commentators to suggest that keeping wicket in England is an extremely onerous task.
Something they never EVER said when Knott, French, Russell, Richards, Bairstow, Downton and many, many more were keeping. Alec Stewart - never thought smug - just oiky: "like i', like i'." I'll be very pleased never to hear that again.
Ronnie Irani. D'oh. Need I say more.
David Capel - funny how I couldn't think of his name, nor in fact remember him at all when I began the "next Botham's" thread. He was a truly shocking pick for England.
Neal Radford - stupid mincing approach to the wicket.
Robin Jackman - all that effort to get to the stumps and then he's no quicker than...well...Ronnie Irani.
Steve Waugh - too bloody good and fervent supporter of Muralitharan now that he's retired.
I've always been a big fan of MecKiff myself.
Ray Illingworth - very, very boring commentator, whose favourite word is "very."
Muralitharan.
Brett Lee. with you there, all you chaps who don't like him.
Got to stop, can go on.
Oh god...Mark Nicholas...so pleased with himself, so little talent.
