[quote=cantplaycantalk]Derbyshire vs Durham today. Durham 2 overseas players 8 home grown plus one from Surrey. Derbyshire 6 English 5 Non-English (2 SA, 1 Aus, 1 Zim, 1 India)
Durham in addition missing 2 players on international duty, QUOTE]

Neither of Durham's main overseas players are playing, Herschelle Gibbs and Shoaib Akhtar have yet to arrive. Gareth Breese an off-spinning all-rounder who has Test caps for the Windies (in 2002) is playing as a non-foreigner! How can that be right? Not sure what basis Marcus North is playing on - he's an Aussie, perhaps he's playing until Gibbs arrives.

Credit to them that eight of them were born in the surrounding area. Not many counties can claim that anymore.

North is the replacement for Gibbs in the short term, he is actually married to a local girl and plays league cricket otherwise.

Breese is playing as a non-foreigner (I have mixed feelings regarding this, I dislike the Passport of convenience thing on principal but half my family are Jamaican )

We did drop Reon King though so we are playing with only one recognised overseas player, so I am a bit happier about this.
I still think 5 foreigners is taking the P155 a bit though.

I do wish Notts could have a few more local players. This season we will have Paul Franks and from time to time Bilal Shafayat, Samit Patel and Paul McMahon. All the rest are imports. Strange when you consider the local players we have bought through have all represented and excelled for the England U-19s (in fact the three above all captained them in the last three years!).

Dropping Reon King as in he's not playing well, or as in he's unfit?

probably 'cos the Notts' batsmen smashed him around last week! Although I believe he was only contracted to play the first two matches, which he did.

Contracted for the first two matches? An overseas pace bowler filling in on english greentops for two weeks before the overseas boy turn up? either I've misunderstood, or that's totally pointles (particulalry if he smashed around) Seems a bit of a waste of money.

Quote from The Sunday Sun in Newcastle .......

"Reon's agreement was to play our first two Championship games," said Moxon.

Bizarre I agree, but true.

Must ask you - Shafayat, is he good enough to go all the way? what does he need to do now to acheive greatness - he looks exciting!

He has the talent and the aptitude, he works hard and won't be distracted off the field. He needs a good season. He, more than most, suffered from the in-fighting at Trent Bridge last year, that along with second season syndrome. He could make it.

I don't think he should have been in the team in the first place. He isn't good enough.
Oh and yes it is bizarre I agree.
