| Why i like cricket Why I love cricket
Well I cant really explain this, it’s just a gut feeling when spring and summer come along I naturally feel lighter anyway, and when I step out to the middle for the first time in a season, it kind of lasts in my memory all season, even until the next time I do it. The feeling is of intense pleasure; it just feels right to play the game. That’s more important than winning, but I sure try my best to pull my weight in the team. I live in a country where the natives generally hate cricket with a passion, and view it akin to cruelty to children, seeing it as a slow dull game. I tell them the ball travels very quickly, but they just humour me. When I pick up the bat or ball I’m instantly transported back to back garden games with my brothers and this means a lot to me on a purely personal level. Perhaps I'm a nostalgic old fool but I've a feeling that I'll remember those games until I die.
Oh to be in England (or somewhere they play cricket come to that), in the summertime, with the wind in your hair, feeling the weight of the ball as it leaves the bat. Giving up playing is a hard decision to make, and in our club there was a guy aged 60 who was super fit and could, on his day bowl ten overs and score a century. I wish I could if I get to 60, I can’t do it now!
What is it about cricket you love, What memories or emotions does it evoke?
Am I just a super saddo for feeling this way?
