Cool BBC Hall of Shame

Bit mean this one, but now we have a civilized forum for cricket debate, and the BBC site is now officially a complete farce, was there anyone on the BBC site who really wound you up? I put my own head on the block here...

To be honsest, despite my jibes, Talon never really bothered me that much, cos he was so transparentally a wind-up merchant and very occassionally funny. But K R Dunsaram did.

The classic that springs to my mind was a guy going by the name of MARTIN T. Not only did this guy have about as much grasp on coherent English as a whelk who had taken elocution lessons from Janet Street-Porter, but he had a single-minded (almost psychotic) obsession with fast-short pitched bowling to the exclusion of all other topics. "Sweet chin music" was his constant mantra. No chance of him finding his way to this site, as he couldnt navigate his way out of the Bakerloo line, so I can bad-mouth him to my hearts content!

LOL - Martin T was a classic case of a contributer who wanted to tell the world (repeatedly) how everything should be... without first bothering to become a god like enough authority on the subject to carry all before him... or apparently wishing to engage in any sort of dialogue.

Complete opposite of Don... who {a} knows and understands a damn sight more about the game of cricket (and the players) than most on these boards; {b} has got to that point by actually paying attention to what others have to say and being willing to learn / modify his views; {c} is always up for dialogue... even if it's argumentative (and is happy to chat with just about anyone).

I'm not going to name names.. but it's the "fans" that really irk me: people who put supporting their team ahead of enjoying good cricket.. who don't mind a good contest between bat and ball so long as their team wins.. who judge each sesson of play in a Test not by the quality of the fare... but on whether their team came out on top.

This was always the biggest problem with the International board... but seemed to take over the BBC board during the WI-Eng Test series... which is why I moved on.

It was quite clear that the quality of the BBC board fell through the floor when the matches were being played. Always seemed to be better to visit once the game was over and the "fans" had gone back where they came from for a few days. I'm newly arrived here, but am glad to see a few familiar names around (and equally glad to see some missing). The Other Place has become completely unworkable in recent days, so stand by for an invasion.

Hall of fame

I prefer the hall of fame. Albert Allen was nearly always intelligent as was dipping toes.I always tuned into Farmer giles and his family (saqulin, brenda, etc) and better days, and occasionally even don talon. Goatman wrote a post that burns in my mind about garlic eclairs, and Seb B was always interesting. RDS (yes you rachael)was always intellegent , and Mike said some good stuff too. Robb is intelligent and also I have a few good discussions with darren ! Jon T was a good foil also.

I think some of the things I posted on TMS belong in the hall of shame!

RDS was intellegent but sometimes so intellegent it became annoying (she's walkin talkin version of wisden!) gota say i liked don jus for who he was, but KR Dunsaram (like that HOL) i agree deserved to be hung by his unmetionables, mind you i still go some times and it seems that the england board is turning into another international one

LOL Rach, I know I've been here before - and it's probably not welcome...but it does occur to me that that is how you'd like to hear yourself described.

Just not convinced by last night's denial.

Let's just say that the quality of some of the quote-backs from the MB for cricket stories has gone a bit down hill! One classic was to suggest retracting roofs for cricket grounds!!!! How did that ever get into a BBC report as a serious comment?

I know one or two people who'd put themselves in with a chance of a late representative call up if they started putting roofs on cricket grounds.

I'd have to start aiming my stock delivery at gully!
