| Even if Murali bent his arm 45 degrees they would find a way of letting him contunue to play. How they can allow him to contiunue is beyond me. He chucks, that they have concluded, end of story. |

| Astonishing! What is astonishing is that he is even breaking the 10º recommendation of the Australians. A 14º straightening of an arm that "cannot straighten" is a huge amount. It also gives the lie to the "optical illusion of straightening" - 14º is way past any illusion. |

| And another thing - after being banned from bowling the doosra, he took the first Zimbabwean wicket in the 5th ODI today with it. Zim were 79/0 and in a very strong position. Scuppered by an outlawed delivery, they must be sick as hypocondriac parrots. |

I thought then and there, that here was a decent umpire at last. But they trod on him didn't they? When Murali started to get under everyone's skin. |

| Wow! One thing's for sure: you get a full report in The Hindu! I'm afraid, though, I don't understand all this stuff. How is an umpire ever meant to determine whether a bowler's arm straightens by more or less than five or ten degrees? It's just unworkable, isn't it? Everyone knows what a straight arm looks like (although Murali has never seen one in the mirror), but all this work on the question of "how bent is bent" seems strange to me. Nothing can convince me that Murali is not a habitual chucker, I'm afraid. I feel sorry for the guy having a congenital defect in his arm, but if he's got one and it makes it impossible for him to be a bowler, well maybe he shouldn't be bowling. |

We'll have to be careful. We might be accused of being the same person...it's a good job you're in Prague and I'm in London. I don't know anything about Prague...except that that's where they shot all the outdoor scenes in Amadeus. |
