Batty doesn't need to make many runs if he can save lots of them. Blackwell basically cost us the match with his overs yesterday.

I can see were you are coming from, but I am not sure Batty would have made any difference yesterday.

Blackwells bowling was the pits yesterday,of the bowlers only Flintoff, and to a lesser degree Gough, came out with any credit.
You could be right,if he can bowl tight.my thinking was the big hitters on both sides did the job yesterday on the same pitch, and Blckwell can be a big hitter.

But if you can't bowl a specialist spinner on a slow wicket with long boundaries, where can you bowl one?

Yes you should be able to play a specialist spinner on this pitch,We are not spoiled for choice are we,Batty or Giles do not fill me with confidence.

Giles has done the job well in India ,but he was critisiced for being negative bowling leg side,it paid off,he has bowled that way since, if he had been in yesterday bowling with that method we would have won.

Typical Trescothick dismissal - looking to work it fine on the off-side. Gets an inside edge onto the stumps. I've noted that the bounce is lower today so there's less life in the wicket today. A few cracks about but nothing to cause concern. Wickets will be hard to come by for both sides so the side who can bowl tightest will win the match.

I think that with the batting WI have, they can chase down almost any score England post unless they lose wickets on a regular basis. Therefore, we have to hope the England bowlers will be more penetrative today.

Excellent decision. The West Indies are loaded with left-handers. Ideal for an off-spinner. Question is, can Batty hack it?

That was in Tests. Look at what has happened to him this winter when the batsmen have gone after him, as they will in the ODIs. You don't play a SLA against a team loaded with left-handers as an attacking option unless the ball is turning square. And Giles is showing that he is not able to defend effectively when attacked.

Odd how the West Indian batting that was been run down as pathetic in the Tests is suddenly being talked up as brilliant again...
