At our club the wives/girlfriends would win verses the husbands/boyfriends; Even the drinking contest afterwards!!
Sounds great, women can win the drinking contests no problem, a few female friends and myself managed to beat a few of the professionals in a drinking contest a few summers ago! women rule, the men could learn a lot from us!

I don't think Umpires will become obsolete in any way. Technology should only be used to assist in decision making, at the end of the day - the decision must always be a human one, but using technology to help ensure the decision made is the correct one.

I agree Scott but I am saying start just with the LBWs to begin with,It is the most annoying thing to see a batsman out LBW to a ball we can all see in retrospect, that player was not out.

When the umpire asks the 3rd umpire to look at the replays,it is then out of their hands, what the third Umpires(replays)says then stands.so really in this instance technology is making the final decision.

That is fine with me Scott, but I dont want to see umpires marginalised.

Haven't they already experimented with having catches referred to the third umpire? I seem to recall that it didn't work and they abandoned the idea.

I'd be happy with LBWs being open to assistance, but I'm not sure I like the idea of the third umpire being used as a "Court of Appeal" - i.e. I don't want captains to be able to seek review of the field umpires' calls. I would say:

1. Let the field umpires call for help by all means if they feel they need it.
2. Let the third umpire have an option to refer it back to the field umpire if his TV view is inconclusive (perhaps by a radio link rather than the red/green lamps). That will allow the field umpire always to go with initial thoughts if TV is not conclusive (it should usually lead to a "Not out" call, as there would presumably have been doubt for him to refer it in the first place).

I am not sure I like the "beep" for no balls either. I understand the idea, Scott, but we already have more electronic noise than anyone should have to suffer - mobile phones bleeping, warbling, advertising Nokia and occasionally ringing are the worst offenders - and I'd really like to be able to hear the gentle and unpolluted sound of leather on willow occasionally! "Beeps" in tennis courts are really intrusive to my sensitive ears, and it would be no less so on the cricket pitch.
