Talksport were ok - Nicholas (although not as good on radio as he is on TV), Cowdrey and the windies guys (particularly Andy Roberts) were all ok. Bannister was consistently awful - can't actually remember him making a single point about what's happening on the field. Greig was really just trying to be Blowers only more brash and annoying - the constant blaring about the Carib girls, which Yacht he was on the last night, one time he did a 15 minute monologue about what he had for breakfast for pity's sake. The man is a moron.

The worst things about Talksport were the adverts, the constant interruptions every time David Beckham or Rio Ferdinand blew his sodding nose, not giving live cricket coverage which they no doubt paid good money for in order for brain dead idiots to phone in about football matches which they had no live coverage of, NEVER giving out the score and - worst of all - the sometimes apologetci slant on the commentary. Along the lines of "oh we know you love football so we'll let you listen to it or try and relate cricket to football at the merest hint of a tenuous link". Roll on TMS, Blowers is the very essence of summer.

Greig and Bannister have to be up there with the worst commentators going, along with the dreaded Botham/Willis combination on Sky who seem intent on getting on their hobby horses or just banging on and on about one point which may or may not have any relevance. Them and Jackman - not frightfully bad, but is dull as dishwater.

Benaud, Gower, Boycott, Atherton, Aggers and Blowfeld is the dream team.

Well after this post,I dont know how you can say talkSport were ok.greig got up your nose, the adverts annoyed you.not a lot left to enjoy really.

Speaking for myself I got used to the adds,Tony Greig trying to be like Blowers Hmmm,no one can be as annoying as Blowers,if he see`s a butterfly.

My opinion of who the best radio commentator is ,Aggers stands head and shoulders above the rest.

Thumbs up Thank you Talksport

I can understand having a pop at the beeb - we have to pay for it so we should have a voice - But TSATT is free to air and, unlike the winter tour to the Bangladesh, provided cricket coverage and I am gratefull for that.

I listened to the Caribbean braodcasting commentary when TSATT got irritating and listening to a pro-Windies perspective was enjoyable if only for their reaction to the WI performance in the tests (oh and the promotion of the post match cristian cricket phone in)!!

Now if we move right along to talk about the quality of the printed reporting . . .

TELEGRAPH
Atherton - not impressed with his critique of Hussain - but fair comment on Read (check his column)
Pringle - good to see a fast bowler havong his say (and he knows about playing Vs WI) (check his column)
Boycs - top man - not all sense imo but you can feel his conviction when he says "It told me that England now felt they had the beating of the West Indies whenever they played them" (check his column)

Hey, it looks like I did read a bestseller every day afer all (and it's free online!)

And what of the other publications?

Anyone care to big up or slate any one else?

Just followed your link (Pringle)I dont read a best seller everyday,so could you trll me is this the same D Pringle(the worst player to ever wear an England cap).

If it is,the one good thing I can say about him,I was listening to TMS in the days when they broadcast tours abroad in wich England were playing,New zealand V England I forget witch year,But Pringle trashed them.

I will miss talkSport this summer.

The very same D Pringle who won just once against the WI in eleven attempts (though I doubt he is alone in that) and just seven out of 30 test overall!! He was rarely used abroad - playing twenty five of his matches at home. He ended with an average of 36! I think he was a county colleague and captains pick (Gooch)!

From Wisden :- "Pringle, the first England cricketer to wear an ear-ring, had eclectic tastes in reading, slightly outre tastes in music and lateral thought processes."

A candidate very high up on the list of 'Worst player to represent his country' indeed. (NB for the links to work you must have registered with www.telegraph.co.uk)

No I did not register with the Daily Telegraph,I clicked on COLUMN in your post, and was directed to a page in the Telegraph. The first thing I saw was a picture of D Pringle,I clicked on his column and was invited to register, witch i did not do.hence I said to you in my post "I dont read a best seller"and asked you was it the same D pringle.

I was surprised at his average in the Thirties,You did not mention his bowling average.

The reason I put him as a candidate for Englands worst player(who I have seen)is ever time I saw him play, nothing seemed to happen,it was like the game just drifted on.I remember him well.
