Well that further strengthens my view that we shouldn't just discard players merely because they are coming to the end of their career. First and foremost players need to be selected on their merit's and not for any other reason. As I said, if you think Nas is simply not good enough to play for England anymore - then drop him, but he is and will therefore continue till he decides its time to quit, or his form drops so far he cannot be selected on merit and that has not happened yet.

So do you think Hick should be selected then?

I dont see any argument ff. You want nass in, other eople want collingwood/strauss. As giles should be dropped (dont fail me fletch) colly/strauss and nass will play so everyones happy.

and
2/ if strauss/colly play, which one do you think will?

Now theres a question, in fact theres two !! I lke to think the eng mangement have the brains to drops giles, in fact its a no brainer. They did it the last test against SA, so there is a prescadent (is that spelt right ?). As for strauss or colly, strauss is in more form with the bat but (centrally contracted) collingwood who can bowl a bit but hasnt recently been used for any bowling. Collingwood is also a great fielder. I'd go for strauss but wouldnt be that dissappointed with collingwood as long as giles isnt playing !!

Peitersen will put pressure on all 3, but nass in particular. He would be a replacemnt for nass, with collingwood/ strauss still fighting it out. Mind you he could also be a replacemnt for giles if his bowling is any good. Indirectly he could put pressure on trsco if strauss hits form, who could then open. All good news for england !

i was actually thinking that (no really!) apart from peitersons bowling, iv watched it, bit better than vaughan's but no great shakes, mind you iits the best option we got if giles is dropped (please please please!) and they are reluctant to pick keedy (legend) brown or swann

freddie,
1/ i cant see england dropping giles as they need him to bat. Even if they did, they would replace him with another spinner who bats (batty) who i dont think is any better so theres not much point. Fletcher seems determined to have a top 8 who can all bat and neglects their other attributes ie reads keeping etc. Personally id prefer to see our best spinner (keedy or Brown) play and teach some seamers how to hold a bat instead of letting them fill up the tail. Hoggard is a good example of this as he has improves immensely over the last couple of seasons.
2/ colly seems to be preferred by the selectors so i think hes more likely

Welcome statto. Why do we need a spinner on early season test matches in this country ? As you suggest he's in because of his plucky batting performances why not just pick another bat ?
