Red face Keep the faith !

The change bowlers seem to be doing a better job and Greivious has a good recent record of taking wickets in his second spell.

Keep the faith !

Well Freddy looks a lot more dangerous - bowling round the wicket, changing the angle, the batsman aren't so confident of leaving the ball - this has been the biggest problem, they're simply leaving anything they don't need to play - how do you build pressure if the're doing that?

They apply pressure - and BANG goes Fleming - frustrated at not being able to score - bye bye !

Good bowling partnership from Freddy and Jones.

You should know me by now, I'll criticize when its due and praise when it's due! Hoggy and Harmy really did bowl poorly in the first session and allowed the Kiwi's to get off to a good start. Freddy and Jonesy came on and did exactly what was needed - dry up runs, stop them from simply leaving balls they didn't have to play and starting applying some pressure - which paid off with Flemings wicket. This track is a good batting track - it won't really help the bowlers - they have to work for their wickets.

Post And the're off!

Well NZ edge the first session. they had by far the better of the first hour scoring at over 4 an over. The change bowlers have brought England back into it with Jones (whose presence so offends Anderson fans, myself included) making the most significant contribution. With a bit of luck (or cuban heels) there could have been another wicket shortly before lunch.

I'm going for a ploughmans and I'll see you all for the afternnon session.

Looks like we don't need slips if people aren't going to try and catch chances.

Well, what a surprise, Flintoff comes out of the slip cordon and into the attack and Butcher screws up in the slips AGAIN! When are we going to sort this problem out? Doesn't Giles field in the slips? Something has to be done, becaue Flintoff's effectiveness as a bowler is being destroyed by this.
