Ah, Colin Metson. In his prime widely acknowledged as the only wicket keeper in the country who could keep as well as Jack Russell (and acknowledged as such by Jack himself if I recall correctly). Shame he didn't know one end of a bat from the other. I will never forget the catch he took to dismiss Keith Brown of Middx from a full blooded sweep shot whilst standing up (can't remember who the bowler was but presume it was Crofty or Steve Barwick).

I would hope that Metson has however remained involved in coaching the next generation of Glamorgan 'keepers.

I saw a picture on the net of him standing up to Waqar in the nets. He is nuts.

Wow... now that I WOULD like to have seen. Don't see why not though: sure, the pace is there.. but Waqar wasn't really one to resort to bouncers or short stuff (which, at that pace, might be difficult to take stood up).. and as his basic game was about full length deliveries that invited the batsman to drive... having the poor bugger pegged in his crease by a wacky wickie must have been quite appealing!

The thing is Metson could have probably pulled it off (at least for a while anyway). I wouldn't recommend it on a pitch with variable bounce though!

What happens if the batsman gets a thickish edge? Who catches it? What if it gets edged high?

Hi
safest place to keep, ball ul just keep going over his head if it is a bouncer, how would he see a yorker,he wont see a well pitched up ball, there would be a lot of bys.

Then they would have to play Two keepers, one to take the place of the one stould up.
