Trescothick's captaincy has really impressed me, and seems to have brought out the best in his batting (since the Oval last year). True, we have to see what he does on a seaming wicket, but his place is secure for now.

One thing is certain, surely. England have one new opening batsman.
We have certainly got a new opener clive. I'd go as far as to say I'd make room for him to open full stop as I think his style is better for the team. My only doubt is that he did against an attack with no real pace and on his home ground. If selected (still no guarentees !!) for the headingly test and performs equally well against Bond and on a more seam frindly pitch which he doesnt regularly play on, he should definatly open permanently.

Well done to England for a good win. They finally made it after struggling all day.
Congrats to Nasser for coming through with a grafting innings despite being out of form and overcoming the mistake of running out Strauss.

Excellent performance by Strauss, the best England batsmen in the match. how does he follow that.
Also Mark Richardson, so close to two tons in a Lords test what a performance.

Well, after the first hour it was pretty much plain sailing for England...lovely knocks by Strauss, Hussain and Thorpe. I thought it oddly fitting that it should be the old timers of Thorpe and Hussain who carried us to victory after all the ageist nonsense that has been splashed about lately.

Only fly in the ointment: I had the misfortune to be sitting close to a bunch of morons who seemed to think they were at a football match. For at least two hours I had to endure very crass, drunken songs and poor Vettori was verbally abused in a shameful mannor. Bloody idots - sod of back to Millwall.

I wouldn't care to repeat most of it, but it involved questioning his parentage and sexual preferences. And to be honest, it wasn't like it was even a JOKE - they seemed pretty serious about it.

In the end they were forced to leave - i think some of the crowd and Vettori probably complained. A few people actually left out of disgust..

You could hear the football fans swearing and chanting through the ground mics all afternoon. Lovely.

It would make a good subject for another thread, cricket matches you've been to ruined by drunken abusive fans of 'other sports '
