not two keepers, one proper keeper and one batsman

i meant i didn't understand "this team is all players for all men" in relation to the previous sentence, but nm.

I've ripped the team apart because it doesn't work, too many bits and pieces pointless players, they play well enough to win on occasion but not well enough to challange india and australia imo so why bother. Australia win by picking their best players, new zealand pick a team full of all rounders simply because that's all they have to pick from, if all ours were like flintoff then fair enough, but they're not, so why bother?

Ricky clarke is not a match winner imo, blackwell could be with the bat but isn't good enough in the field, perhaps i've been harsh on collingwood who i might have put in instead of vaughan or bell i guess, squad man at least.

anyway, thread hijack, sorry

edit: yes i do see pieterson as giles replacement, seeing as his offspin is ok and he bats much better than giles, so haven't lost anything (i would like to have had blackwell do this).

Good post

It is still two keepers, that is one of the reasons i said "this team is players for all men"coupled with the fact you picked Bell and Pieterson,Like keeping both camps happy(keepers)

So you are a Read man, fair enough, but there are a couple of batters with more claim than Jones as a batter,Key for eg.

I dont understand who you think the bits and pieces players are, freddy is a specialist all rounder,so that only leaves Jones and Giles.
Threads are open for everyone

ah hang on, i'm on about the one day side not the test side, i wouldn't change anything in that (except maybe batty for giles just to see what might happen, can't be any worse), so the bits and pieces players are clarke, collingwood and blackwell (to a lesser extent giles and flintoff but flintoff has stepped up to genuine world class all rounder).

I'm not a Read man as such, i appreciate good wicket keeping, but i hold no sentimental link to him, i want the best 11 players in each position, i think jones would still be a better one day player than Key (although i'm basing that view on the old Key, the new improved one seems to be much more attacking so who knows). Based on the point of having both in the team only, if we're going to stick with the bits and pieces players then jones would be the best option as keeper because of his runs when the others collapse, but if we choose some proper batsmen then read is the better option as he's good at one dayers and is an outstanding keeper.

Reason i said thread hijack is because this thread is about jones and read not englands one day team
