Read in the runs

Chris Read 83 no off 103 balls, charging Notts to victory against Durham - but does this prove anything other than his ability to plunder runs from an average county attack?

Don't know about the "to victory" bit! I would still make Durham favourites, Notts only have Sidebottom and MacGill left to bat!

Doesn't prove much really. But then ... does anything in County cricket?

What does Sidebottom look like in a batting helmet - i bet it's well funny! What about the fellow thats batting with Read - can he hold an end up?

He prefers to smash the ball out of the ground! Having said that, he batted for a long time a year or so ago with Gallian to win a match.

Chris "can't bat" Read is currently 104 not out as Notts need just five more runs to reach their 291 target against Durham!

Plus I've heard he can keep wicket too!

Not sure as that Durham attack is too scary! The top order must have though so though! Good win.

Maybe not, but 108 n.o off 137 balls in a victory chase batting at six with the tail is pretty damn impressive in any case. His share of the partnerships he was involved in is also impressive.

I've been impressed by Read's ability to improve rapidly right from the start, and I'd love him to prove he can rival Jones with the bat too. I have nothing against G. Jones at all apart from his poor wicket-keeping in both innings at Lords.

Congrats on a fine win in what looks to have been an exciting match, by the way.

This is what we need, people wanting to play for England, getting dropped and then making a case with their perfomances!!

Read will need to perfom consistently though, but it is good to see. All the arguments we can have on here will not change the selectors minds, but doing it on the pitch will

I'm pleased to see that Read is making good on his claim that he wants to win his test place back. I know it's too early in the season to suggest that he should come back in, but if he continues to perform well with the bat in four day cricket, then I would love to see him back in the England side, particularly as his keeping is superb.

Even as a big fan I don't believe he'll be as good as Jones with the bat. But I don't think he needs to average thirty five or forty, twenty-five to thirty will probably do as long as the keeping is upto scratch.
