Anyway, I note that Key has hit yet another century. That Surrey attack doesnt look too bad either!

And there's the problem, he should have got a double, but he was side tracked by the thought of a couple of pies and a cake ..

199 to go with his 86 in the first innings... If he'd stayed another hour, Kent could have posed Surrey a stiff target. Hard to criticize someone who batted for that long, though.

From his own point of view, Key has chosen the wrong time to impress with the bat: there isn't a vacancy in the England batting line-up at the moment.

Just depends whether the choose the extra batsman over Giles, in which case there is atleast one spot, although I am fairly convinced Collingwood will get that spot.

Agreed, hard to see them not picking a contracted batsman who hasn't done anything wrong so far. Collingwood will be the immediate beneficiary of The Saviour's retirement, because Strauss was going to play anyway.

In fact, I wouldn't mind seeing Colly coming in at no. 5.

poor Bob, very unlucky to get out 1 short of a double century. it's his highest ever score though, so he's gotta be pleased. just a shame he couldn't stick around for longer to make the game safe for us.

Hi there! Being an Essex fan, I have to say that Will Jefferson is on top form at the moment. And people seem to be ignoring Jamie Foster despite him following his Double Ton with a not out 100 after being unfortunately run out for 30-odd in the 1st innings vs Somerset. How many other England wicket keeper contenders have scored a double hundred in the 3rd innings of a match?

With an average over 57 before this knock, he is certainly one of the form players in the Championship, alomg with Key, Newman, Hick etc.
