I suspected it from the hints he was giving. I think what foxed a lot of people was his desire to achieve 100 Caps, that was really so he could go out on a 'high point' but that 'high point' was provided by the final day of the final Test Match - so achieving 100 Caps was no longer necessary.

I watched his press conference and in true Nas style he was very emotional about it all, but had made up his mind, now was the time to go - credit to him.

He certainly hinted he'd had offers from Sky, but would take time off to mull them over, I sure hope Sky snap him up as a commentator/expert.

He'll start working for Sky during the Natwest series.

It's a bit of a shame...but I haven't got Sky...I sort of knew years ago, that if I ever got a sports channel then I'd probably never go out of the house.

Well I haven't got one...so I still play cricket. In fact I manage to keep three hobbies going fairly well and I barely watch television except the Saturday of Test matches.

But all this does afford me the pleasure of not having to hear the words: "blue square" or "Daily Telegraph" or whoever else is sponsoring coverage.

Because that sort of thing REALLY GETS ON MY NERVES.

How pleasant to see the welcoming words from that nice Mr Botham at the bottom of the report on Sky's website.

IMHO, I cant wait for nass and botham to share commentry box together. I think nass will show him up big time, or better still, throw him out.

He'll be missed when our number 4 is asked to come in with only double figures on the board, but hopefully strauss may protect who ever it is.

Hopefully a stato can help me, but I'm sure when nas was captain we drew more matches than we should have lost. Hopefully the fight and sheer bloody-minded-ness will continue even though he's retired.

i for one would like to applaud Nasser for this selfless act of stepping down to allow Strauss and other newcomers a bite at the cherry. i had feared that he would do a Stewart and continue to play in order to achieve personal goals, when he wasn't playing at a standard worthy of test level. i think this an excellent time to quit, with his last innings being a typically Hussainesque knock, which resulted in a win for england at the home of cricket.

Well done Nasser, for both the years that you have dedicated to English cricket and for having the bravery to step down at the right time.
