Get married, then there doesn't seem to be a need to think, it's all done for you.

What argument was Scott making? I tried to have a look on the beeb board but it's not working properly - don't know if it's my computer or their fault.

There is silliness on the BBC board and this one is far better moderated, but I would be careful not to get to elitist on this matter. Treat everyone with respect would be a good rule, plus there are a number of decent posters that want to talk cricket; to denounce them as you have above doesn't really add to the generally held belief that this site has more of a family feel to it.

How about we accept that the BBC board isn't moderated properly and that some people like to post where they fancy.
I still have a look at the bbeb form time to time under a different name as I was, rightly, booted off for having a right go at proud aussie (utter ****), so while I feel I was right in one way I went right off the deep end.

But since going back I'm finding it really hard to find an interesting thread. Igethighonlegspin is constantly trying to hump saqlain giles leg, which is becoming a bit stomach churning, then its loads of "waqar is de best init" or the like of proud aussie getting on my tits. And despite the upgrade its still deadslow. I'll stick have look from time to time, but I dont think I'll be a regular, unless things change alot. I agree with the elitist comment though, that wont help anyone.

Some guy was trying to construct an argument that Vaughan should continue to open with Trescothick and Strauss shouldn't open. He was using the stat that as they'd made a partnership of 185 in the final Test 'featherbed' in the WIndies that was enough evidence that the partnership was working fine as he said 'if it aint broke don't fix it'!

I politely pointed out (well arrogantly actually, I'm always arrogant on the Beeb board - the fools make me do it) that he'd overlooked the fact that in the 3 previous Tests in the WIndies Trescothick and Vaughan had made between them an average of 27.66 and in the Tests in Sri Lanka an average of 64.66 - both significantly less than their combined historical average of 86.75. I just asked him to explain to me if that partnership was working as well as he claimed - how come neither of them were even getting close to making their averages over two Test Series?

Suffice to say - he didn't reply - they never do once you point out the errors of their ways.

Scott, you make a lot of good points and you use stats to do it, and on occasion I like to read your points and take them on board. But you really need to take a step back and look at how you are portraying yourself. This is just cricket talk, the poor guy probably wanted to chat, and yes, he got it wrong, but why do you feel the need to be arrogant and consider them all as fools. I would think that he didn't reply more because you accomplished your mission, you made him feel like a fool. Not really something to brag about is it.

Take it easy and have a little bit more respect for people. I don't often post here but I like the informed chat and the far better moderation, but your arrogance is misplaced, it's chat about cricket, that's all, and it should be pleasant.

"MD and Seb B have both registered here. VTR I think belongs on the BBC board, but that's just my opinion."

Generally, I find VTRs comments well thought out, and totally different in quality to Lord Snot's (wasnt he a Young One's character),and Dunsaram etc.

The high point of my, not yet totally finished time, on the beeb boards was without doubt, a pretty long-running debate with Peter Foy and Farmer Giles about the suitability, or otherwise, of captains leading out there team sporting three -day growths of stubble. I still maintain to this day, that a a bit of fuzz on the jaw is an essential part of the stress of modern captaincy. Ponting has it, Waugh had it. Nasser had it in abundance when he was skipper. Even Vaughan is starting to get it. It proves they are too pre-occupied with the repsonsibilty of captaincy to worry abut trivial items like shaving. I notice Nasser became more clean-cut when he relinqushed the reigns.

Anyway, Peter Foy took the time from his ivory tower in Belguim (?) to write pratically a thesis on why I was wrong. I respect his position, but still find it a little inflexible. Top stuff, that you dont get over there any more with the one reply threads and Short Attention Spans.
