Well, what do you reckon then rach?, Not a bad days work by the lads. Tresco found a bit of form with half century, good for confidence. Hoggard four for 27? Anderson still got a got to do? Even with that attack we bowled less than 50 overs!!

Not sure Fletcher will be happy that Giles, Anderson and Clarke bowled so little (and under so little pressure) and that Batty never even got a chance to turn his arm over... but as our counties tend to put out second XI teams for tour matches we cannot complain.

The batting is encouraging though: Rampaul, Washington and Lawson looked as good a bet as Edwards, Best and Collins when this series started: for that, at least, we should be grateful!

Now do you see my point about "pointless matches?"

I don't think it's pointless Richard... just frustrating.

Bowling wise.. i think Hoggard's 4/27 is pointless (what did he need to prove?) but the fact that Anderson was bowling well is encouraging... and if that spell allowed Giles to find his feet again then that, alone, wil have been worth playing for.

Tresco's 50 has to be good news... and if Collingwood was looking in good nick then at least we'll feel more confident if he has to come in as an injury replacement for the 4th test. Let's hope Read scores a 50+ as well.. and that the Carib Beer side put up a sterner defence int he 2nd innings.

OK... any decent reports on day one yet: I've yet to do my browse around. I doubt timesonline has CMJ's report yet: anything anywhere else?

Evening Rachael. I took your advice to register here. It looks a well organised board. Unfortunately Tresco got out just near the end. I was telling someone on TMS that I would have been happy if he had batted three sessions for 25 not out!

LOL - I'm not sure that would be a good sign with Tresco. He seems to me to be like Stewart: an instinct player who needs to be getting the ball in the middle of the bat pretty regularly to be any use.

I kinda feel the same way about the pair of them: they look more reassuring coming in at six - as they come to the crease you feel that the end is not imminent.. that runs might well still flow.. that the 2nd / 3rd new ball might not be devastating.. that there's hope.

Alas.. as I watch Freddie walking out at six I can't help thinking "oh ****: do I really darre look"!
