maybe we could find some twisted form of cloning that allows us to blend the two together

Jones' batting
Read's keeping
Jones' attitude (allegedly) and what must be seen as arselicking ability (a la Collywobbles)
Read's boyish looks (lets face it who can bring themselves to hate him??)
Read's gloves (i cant stand those Tango gloves Jones uses)
Jones's Welshness!!!!

It's either that or we force Mr Jones and Mrs Read (or Mr Read and Mrs Jones) to get it on... we'd have to wait a while for the results though god damn.

I take your point Alison, there is nowhere else for him to bat, it is a thankless task, like as not ending up batting with the tail, so that is why I would rather have the better keeper.

I was just saying to Pete, Flintoff had a reputation as a slogger, and I posted on this board day after day, he was batting to low, stuck with the tail, no other option but to hit out.

Maybe we can cut them down the middle and stick them together with glue and sellotape?

Fair point, but I have mentioned Butcher droping slip catches in my reply to eng fan, but the difference is, vaughan can move butcher out of the slips, he can't move Jones.

Read can drop catches anyone can, but being the better keeper he would be expected to drop a lot less, you could well be right, England may well be better of with jones, but to me, my personal choice, I think catches taken, and stumpings not missed, are very important, and can win a game.

BTW, I do agree that Jones is by far the better bat, but he is wasted at 7, at times stuck with the tail, what option but to take risks and hit out.

Ha, but it may be better to cut them in half, and then glue them together with tape

Imagine if they did get it on and the outcome was a batsman with Reads ability and a Keeper with Jones' ability!

Have missed most of the last twopages here but ............

Read hasn't had then opportunity to bat against the Windies attack on English pitches nor the New Zealand attack that was about as potent as Derbyshires ! Even in Bangladesh the rest of the batsman failed to muster huge scores. Jones has had to score well just to keep up with the others, and failed to match Hoggard and Harmison in the last series.

As for ever using Vaughan's fielding as part of an arguement, he has to be the worst fielder I've seen for a very long time. He makes far more elementary mistakes than anyone else: some of those dropped dollies and that misfield in the third ball of the final over against the Aussie at Port Elizabeth just when Freddie was putting the pressure on Bichel, even the juggled catch to dismiss Gilchrist (everyone else would have held it cleanly!).
