| Smith has been very poor today..He should have had three or two slips all day....espcially before they had knocked off the deficit... |

He has shut the stable door, after the horse has bolted. Gone of for bad light, in effect 88/1.

| This isn't a bad old game is it? I was feeling a bit glum yesterday, I must admit!! It goes to show you can never write off this England team!! As for Strauss and Trescothick - really great, positive batting, and sensible with it. The SA must be pretty shocked with how things have turned out today - I expect they half thought they might wrap up the game today! |

Just explained on talkSPORT the laws on playing under lights. Before the season started a agreement was made between the 2 sides that not Tesy Cricket would be played under lights, but as we know the lights have been on. Play has been stopped for today, because it's OK for to use the lights as an aid, but if the match is totaly dependant on lights, then play must stop. Good day today, I thought we may do better, but never in my dreams would I have believed we would be 88 runs in front, with only one wicket down. Well done England!

| The performance today has been better than what anyone, including probably Fletcher and Vaughan, had hoped for. A fightback of epic proportions, even though the pitch was easier today, the batsmen more sensible, etc. All that is fine rationalising, but the fact remains that England got out for 139, conceded a near 200 run lead, and then reached 273 for no loss. That is remarkable against any opposition, any ground, any era. Not many of the current Test teams would be able to do that; Australia maybe, and India, very rarely - IMHO the last time such a splendid fightback was seen was VVS Laxman and Dravid's counter-attack against Australia in Calcutta 2001.

| nearing the big 1000 As I understand it the agreement goes something like this: Artificial light can be used to supplement natural light. If the artificial light is contributing more than the natural light then bad light will be offered to both the batting and fielding sides with either one having the right to leave the field of play.

It is strange I agree, but it must be right, or they would still be playing. Quote:
Yes that is the agreement, no play under lights if the natural light has gone, in effect no play will ever be played, because one team will always be under the cosh.
