Thorpe gone now- There is our last hope of avoiding the follow on gone.

Strauss and Tresco had better get padded up.

Its debatable whether SA will actually enforce the follow on yet- They may want to bat for a day or so which means England would have to bat on a wearing pitch.

Five years ago I witnessed an abject performance at that wonderful Test Ground. Again Newlands is seeign England at their worst. Let's hope the second innings performance of a week ago can be repeated. Has anyone suggested yet that Vaughan should be stripped of the captaincy? He isn't worth his place in the team as a batsman at the present. Give it to Tresco and see if Vaughan's form changes. If it doesn't then he can be replaced. <again, duck's for cover> !!

This really is laughable- we have let average bowlers like Ntini and Langveldt take 8 wickets between them for next to nothing on what is still a flat pitch- On a positive note it can only get better in the 2nd innings.

A/O 163. Harmison couldn't even survive one ball when Giles was on a roll Giles joins the 1000 / 100 club

I'm hoping SA now enforce the follow on because I'm sure the England batsman will be determined not to get out to the stupid shots they have got out to in the 1st innings.

| The Saffers have NOT enforced the follow on. Let's hope the England bowlers can keep the scoring slow and low thus eating up some of the remaining 240 overs!!! It wiill take a small miracle to escape from from here with anything other than a very heavy defeat. There remains a nagging doubt if we are as good as we hope we are and the way we bounce back (bouncebackability - Ian Dowieism) from here will tell us if we are. Keep the faith. Come on England!!

| Interesting. If I'd been the SA skipper, I'd have let England worry about that for a while longer. Presumably only ten minutes' notice is required under the laws? I'd have let them enjoy their lunch with a bit of uncertainty in their heads.

It seems like the modern thing to do now days. Ever since Australia were mugged when enforcing the follow in Kolkata by Dravid and Laxman they have hardly made teams follow on and also mentally, to keep a struggling side out in the field for a day or so it may well have an effect.
