Don't know that I would rate Vettori abopve Giles any longer, saw the two of them matched against each other this summer and I thought Giles had the edge. (of course that may be a matter of rating vs the England/NZ batsmen) I've always wondered how the Aussies would do faced against the other half of the Aussie team over the last decade?

The new team would cane them Taylor Slater Boon/Blewett M.Waugh S.Waugh Bevan Healy Miller Reiffel Bichel Fleming vs. Hayden Langer Ponting Martyn Lehmann Clarke Gilchrist Warne Gillespie McGrath Kasprowicz. One on one I'll see how they match up. Taylor vs. Hayden: Hayden. More attacking and by sheer weight of numbers. Has only been established for four years but is better than Mark Taylor. Slater vs. Langer: I'll pull an unpopular move and say Slater. He was more of an enigma and burdened the Aussies through tougher times. Langer is quite a good opening batsmen but Slater's record is hard to go by. And to consider he'd been dropped when he probably shouldn't have been. Ponting vs. Boon/Blewett: Ponting. The captain is possibly the best batsmen in the world at the moment. A joy to watch. Boon was to but is simply not good enough. Blewett not in the same class either. Martyn vs. M.Waugh: Mark Waugh. Very similar players but Mark Waugh seemed to look more elegant. How great it was seeing him flick them off his pads. Lehmann vs. S. Waugh: Steve Waugh. Does any else need to be said? Bevan vs. Clarke: Too early to tell but Clarke in tests. Different players. Gilchrist vs. Healy. Healy for his glovework, Gilly for his batting. Gilly Warne vs. Miller: You don't need to be Einstein to work that one out. Reiffel vs. Gillespie: I loved Pistol, but Dizzy is just the better bowler. McGrath vs. Bichel: Bic had a lot of heart, but Pigeon by a mile. Fleming vs. Kasprowicz: Fleming. Last swing bowler in Australia. 7-4 to the current side. You could have Bevan but I believe Clarke is better.

In fact would it not be an effective attacking option against the attacking Aussies to bowl in a way that makes it difficult for them to attack?

| You mean, to bowl in a negative way, in fact?

Well, yes and no - yes if the top order are established and England are waiting for the new ball therefore wanting to keep the strike bowlers fresh - therefore if Giles blocks up and end then you could have another seamer working from the other end, keeping Harmy (if hes on form) and probably Jones fresh. However, bowling negatively will allot the Aussies to get their eyes in, especially if a new batsman comes out and faces Gilo bowling a consistent line and length, rather than attacking. Its a tough one!
