Pietersen Called up to ODI squad

Big Kev has been called up to the ODI squad. He is not replacing anybody.

Interesting. I think this move has come in light of Butcher returning home. They need to discover which batsmen will face the Aussies and they are giving Peitersen a chance to show whatg he can do.

Good move I say

He should have been in the squad in the first place - just taking him to Zimbabwe always seemed daft to me as I can't see how playing against Zim would tell the selectors anything about his ability to play international cricket.

I agree with both comments. He should have been in the squad anyway. They have decided this apparantly because of the heavy ODI itinnery, which for me is odd, they have known the itinnery for months.

Does anyone else think this may be a move so they can rest Freddie in some, if not all the one-dayers - it would make sense to protect him, and Pietersen is the most obvious batting replacement for him

Good point. Could be to protect Freddie, but I also think they want to find out what he can do in light of the Butcher situation and the ashes series looming.

Just been listening to Hussain and he knows for a fact that Fletcher has been very impressed with Pietersen. He thinks that the management decided a while back that he would play in the ODI's

Not really he is a very strong and agressive batsmen, who can also bowl off-spin.

The similarity is with the batting style, he knowhere near the sam quality as a bowler..

One thing is for sure: Pieterson is sure to get a "warm" welcome by the South African team and public following his recent outburst about SA cricket....

Should be intersting!!!
