Not really sure I'd like to see Michael Vaughan compared with Ian Botham in this sense! I've no doubt that Beefy would have been more blunt in his comments, but Michael has been around the block a couple of times as well. He should have held his peace, and I think he will next time.

Maybe so, OF, but I've seen players get away with alot worse than Vaughan did without losing a penny of their match fee!

Anyway, I wonder how they are going to fine Vaughan part of his match fee for the appalling slow over rate in this game now that they have already nabbed it all?!

That is what has been truely bad about this game - terrible over-rates on both sides.

The Saffers were as low as 10 runs per over after the first hour this morning, which is just shoking!!

Bet they don't fine Smith a penny

I bet they dont fine any of the captains for slow over rates.... i mean, vaughan was only fined for his outburst.... itsbeen a feature of the series really. plus it looks like its relly bad light out there today. it dosn't seem like all the overs for today will be bowled either

I doubt they will fine him for that, Kirsty - but you will have seen elsewhere that I have been following the over rate question for this series. There is no question that both sides have been slow in this game so far, but England are much slower than South Africa this time - eleven seconds an over slower, at 4 minutes 42 seconds in the first innings against South Africa's 4 mins 31 secs over two innings. There probably won't be any action if this match ends in a result, but if it goes to a draw Mr Lloyd might be opening the wallet to receive contributions from both skippers. I don't think he has to stop at 100%.

Personally, I am more bothered by the slow over-rate than the odd mild (and true) comment about the Umpires lack of consistancy. It's the same as this business with going off for 'bad light'. The ICC need to look at making cricket good for spectators - so slow over-rates SHOULD be penalised (I like the idea of runs being added to the oppodition score) and a big rethink is needed about the offering of the light.

Suprise, surprise, Smith isn't whinning:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/cricket/4181567.stm

and an even bigger surprise, he's actually giving England credit when its due, I mean can u beleive it, he's not blaming it on the toss or pitch or anything else, he's actually got some praise for Tresco and Hoggard.

Wait till Jennings does an interview though!! - then we'll see how much praise we get!

What part of the south africa performance today was one of his tactical masterstrokes?? Did he put Jacques Kallis in a vat of boiling wax?? Whatever he did to gee his players up today he's welcome to try it next time!

But seeing as we won i suspect we wont hear much from him

For once he hasn't said something stupid.
