Talking Caddick Praises Hoggard

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cric...nd/4183409.stm

Only last year, he was saying he wasn't good enough and that as soon as he was fit he would take his place.

Not anymore Andy, time to retire officially I think....

Was Caddick the only one, then? Fun, cause I could have sworn that Hoggard had taken a fair bit of flack from a variety of sources from time to time throughout his career about his value to the team!!

If the England seamers hadn't done so well in the WI, Caddick would have been in with a shout at getting back in the side - it was ufortunate that he chose to give an interview saying this which was published after England had started the process of taking the WI to the cleaners last spring!!!

Let us not forget, miserable sod or not, Caddick was a great servent to Englsih cricket. And yes, I think it's fair to say his international career is well and truely over!!

This time last year even Hoggard was worried that his England career was all but over: he'd been dropped in Sri Lanka and the coach was making no secret of his frustration or of the fact that he was excited about the prospect of Harmison, Jones and Anderson as his three specialist seamers.

Only Vaughan's insistence got Hoggard into the team in the WI: the coach wanted Anderson instead.

Intrestingly if Hussain was still Captain, I would have predicted that Andesron would have been chosen.

The fact remains though that of the two players, Hoggard and Anderson, the correct player was chosen, that does show that Fletcher is flexible in his plans, which is also a good thing.

I am not too sure where your evidence for this is though - or is this just a Rachael hunch?

Hoggy's view of the Test, in his own words

I have noticed that Harmy and Hoggy do not often waste time with words to the Batsmen

This is the Team ethic that I think has lead to so much succes (and why Caddick would be a very square peg, what would Caddick have said?)

This is the desire, from even one of the mildest memebers of the team. This team are not afraid to make records.

Yes, very true - But I also remember there being some concern within the media about the strength of England's bowling attack prior to the start of WI tour (certianly, there was promise, but concern around Jones injury worries, and Harmisons line). Indeed, many were, ironically, bemoaning the fact that Caddick WASN'T fit for the tour!! Things certainly change in a hurry!!!

We still might see old wingnut head before or even during the ashes if we get injuries to harmo or freddie and Jones and Anderson remain at sea.

I would prefer we went for someone younger. As good as Caddick was, he is the past. It's time to move on.

OK, not including Jones or Anderson, who do we pick if we have a horrid run of injuries, thats what worries me. Batting we could (although hopefully not) lose 3 bats (lets say key, thorpe and tresco) and bring 3 more (bell, butch and pietersen) and still be competative.
