Like i said its going to be a good series as for the urn staying in England thats another story

So the urn should stay in England. After all, it contains the bails burnt to represent the Ashes of English cricket. Quite a symbolic item considering the recent results in ashes contests. Worth a visit to see them if in London though

I have read Vaughan,s remarks on the upcoming ashes tour and they are quite sensible. If England lose, there will be no great disapointment providing they are competitive. But if he talks it up, there will be hell to pay. To those that are saying England will win i ask them -would they be prepared to bet a months pay on it?

There are no more loyal ENG supporters than me. However, I won't put a days pay on it, never mind a full months (albeit that that is a mere half-pittance that I would be risking, but there's another tale...).

ENG are a damn good side at the moment, and for the first time in my lifetime there are more players with the appearance of test class performers coming through then we know what to do with. We can all look forward to salivating with anticipation of the Ashes series to come over the next decade!

Then why do they play for the ashes if they are going to stay at lords that is ludicrous

When australia won the americas cup the yanks unbolted the old thing and sent it here

It is more of a symbolic thing, each winning side gets a replica, the urn itself has never been passed over.
It's tradition, now stop whinging.

Whinging aussies...

I was only winding you up on that one, guys! All the arguments have been well rehearsed many times over the last twenty years or so, and I have sympathy with both sides on this one. I've never actually seen the urn myself - don't even know if the good members of the MCC make it available for public viewing. I'd like to see it one day, but, as you suggest, Seamer, it probably only makes sense if you happen to be in the neighbourhood. I have a number of egg cups in the kitchen which are, on the face of it, not dissimilar.

That's true. And wasn't it Alan Bond who suggested running over it with a road roller and re-naming it the Australia Plate?

Wish we had - once we lost it we never got the bloody thing back.
P.S Occasion Fan - If you had to sit in a plane for 24 hours to get to England you would have probably made the effort to see it.(the urn). Like the Imperial War museum.(The day i went to visit was the only day in the year it was closed)
