| Surely thats putting too much pressure on our best one day batsmen though!?! Actually Jones outscored most of the batsmen on the tour to Zimbabwe

| I'd argue he for a one day blitz. Our ODI batting line up isnt the strongest in the world

| Apparently they've changed keepers after thirty overs. |

Whatever his merits as a Test batsman/keeper he has no rights to be in the ODI side. Mention all you like about his record against Zimbabwe and I'll point to Read's superior record at County One-Day level over the past few years- far more challenging than the Zimbos. He's in because his face fits, not because he is any better. Even his Mum wouldn't try and claim otherwise !! Last edited by Notts Exile : 27-01-2005 at 02:58 PM. |

| It's difficult to look at there domestic one day records due to the lack of domestic one day cricket Jones has played. I think the selectors were looking for a bit of continuity with there selection of Jones in One day side as well as the test team. I felt bad for read after his heroic effort against the west indies last Spring. Plus i think your being a bit harsh on the Zimbo's, the standards not that much difference from the second division of the NCL which is where Read has had his chance to play P.S I know which division Jones will be in next year before you say anything.

What with the number of matches these guys are expected to play nowadays I don't see any reason why the two teams shouldn't have a different wicketkeeper (or captain or anything else for that matter). The two forms of the game are different. Some players are better at one form than another. Continuity is just an excuse and that's how it was seen at the Trent Bridge Test the day the Nat West Series squad was announced!! Last edited by Notts Exile : 27-01-2005 at 03:27 PM. |

| I can see your point and would be as equally annoyed if Read was to get called up in place of Jones. All Read can do is consistantly score runs at county level, he'll have the chance in Div 1 of both competitions next season to prove his worth.

| Different competition: same irritating problem. England are about three overs behind the pace. This innings should have been over at 1600GMT. It's very easy in limited overs cricket to devise some draconian penalty for this - twice or three times the achieved over rate should be painful enough (would cost England 30 or 45 runs in this case).
