I know, it has always existed, but I kind of feels it is much worse now then it was back then, in the old days, from all that I have read, I get the impression that it was mostly banter [at RBLC would put it], not as much swearing, or direct personal remarks. I have a totally zero tollerence policy on that front.

As Ern has pointed out, it is simply highlighted to a greater extent today. Kirsty has already mentioned Dennis Lillee and one FS Trueman was also well known (if I recall correctly) for his colourful use of language.
