A run-out. They do tend to be on the cards with Mr Pietersen around. Maybe Bell will score quicker than the skipper anyway.

One thing I've noticed is the lack of boundaries yet, Kev in particular seems to be scoring at a reasonable rate in ones and twos. Nice to see.

England's ashes batting order -

Tresco
Vaughan
Strauss
Bell
Pieterson
Freddy
Jones G
Gilo
Jones S
Harmy
Hoggy

You know - it might just work - I think Pieterson's a long term fixture in both types of the game.

Another convert! Soon there will be no-one left believing that KP is just a One Day player!

I thought he was just a biffer but the fact he's only hit 5 boundaries in in his 61 AND he came in during a mini collapse tells me he's a bit more than that. Almost converted.

The other muppets don't seem to be able to match his scoring rate! Collingwood appears to have just scored two from his last eight balls!

Still on the band wagon that says until vaughan has a clue how to bat in a ODI (i think he can bowl ok in one) I'd give the captaincy to tresco and bring another bat. His dithering has probably cost us 20 odd runs, which on a pitch as flat as a witch's *** could be quite vital.

I would do with him what the Aussies do with Langar - rest him and pick him solely for Tests. As you say he appears to have cost us a few runs today. Though I'd argue, too, that our pinch-hitting opener's 20 from 30 balls hardly justifies his "pinch-hitting" position!

Jones contribution wasnt great but better than vaughans in terms of strike rate. Its only the 2nd time he's opened so I'll give him the benifit till the end of the series.

Mind you, it was a good decision to put colly in front of bell. He does really seem suited to this role.
