County Cricket - Veterans

Looking through the county cricket reports and scorecards in the paper this morning I noticed a number of the old boys have been showing the kids how it's done:

"Happy Hick overtakes W G Grace referred to an exquisite 127th century (176 runs from a total of 306) from the 38 year old on a very tough batting wicket.

"Ramprakash oozes class" starts "Mark Ramprakash has been described by many as having the best batting technique in the land" and reports an innings of "rare quality" which took the veteran past 25,000 1st class runs: a tally surpassed only by Hick (of current batsmen: I've no idea how many have managed it in the past).

Obviously Key and Bell were grabbing headlines for the younger players.. but I'm pretty sure Nick Knight has already been grabbing headlines this year.. and don't doubt assorted other veterans will do so over the summer: any suggestions for other veterans to watch out for would be gratefully received.

I'll enlarge on that in fact. we have A-teams touring the world, why dont we give our youngsters a game out these decent county pros, on home pitches ?

Nah - it's a decent seamer light - I'd probably swap Croft (enough off-spinning options in there already!) for Salisbury and Caddick for Mulally.

Firstly, Stuart Law is no longer an overseas player - he's now a UK citizen. Secondly, Ronnie Irani captaining a side with Stuart Law in? That can only lead to trouble!! I also see Darren Bicknell, but why not the Martin version?

Hmmm.. I'm thinking that if we're having overseas players in these sides than one Shane Warne might be worth consideration (nothing against those already mentioned.. but maybe worth considering). A chap my the name of Muralitharan might also count as a veteran (he is 33).

True, but the unspoken idea was probably more towards vets who weren't current test stars.

Ah, bugger - bit of a flashpoint there. Hang on, we'll swap Hick for Law. Martin Bicknell is an outrageous ommission and I apologise unreservedly (unless of course he get's the emergency call up this summer)
