Sidebottom back in England frame

Notts Exile was singing his praises the other day.. and now look: David Graveney "is due to visit Trent Bridge for the top-of-the-table contest with Hampshire".

ps. Seems Graveney racks up his 100th Test as "Chairman of Selectors" in this coming Test: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/mai...1/ixcrick.html

No. No. And no. The ball aint gonna swing much in the ashes IMHO so for poor old ryan he can join the queue of unneccessary seamers behind saggers, kirtley, Jon Lewis and martin bicknell. If he suddenly become a better bet than hoggy or jones bring him in but I cant see it.

<<Que Notts Exile who will now wax lyrical on the benifits of Ryan in the England set up>>

Takie it away NE !

I seriously hope you're having a laugh, Rachael. Sidebottom? The boy with the big hair? I thought he'd shuffled over the cricketing coil to start a band called Toploader!

No, Sidebottom wouldn't play for my England team. And I hope he's cut his hair since those days. No man should be allowed to play cricket with hair that shows clearly beneath his helmet when he's batting. Yes, that includes you too, Mr 'Dizzy' Gillespie. Get a hair cut!

NE can confirm.. but the Torygraph article states "Sidebottom has decided to maintain his eye-catching King Charles-style haircut, encouraged by his father Arnie, the former England seam bowler and Manchester United footballer."

Why would Sidebottom an fast medium seamer get into the frame ahead of say Mark Davies wickets at 15ish this year and 50@20ish last year who is early 20s?

For the record I wouldn't play either, we have Hoggy for that role and there is limited use for fast medium ahead of Flintoff/Jones/Harmison who are medium-fast or just plain FAST.

To me he would not get in ahead of Steve Davies, I thought we had seen the last of him.

We could always pick him as a like for like match with Gillespie - no-one else can match that haircut.

I think it was very clever of someone to arrive at the conclusion that because David Graveney is going to Trent Bridge (half way to Durham) he must be going to see Ryan Sidebottom - not Chris Tremlett or KP or even to see how Warney's bowling at the moment?

Mornin' All ! Looks like Sidebottom wasn't so lucky yesterday anyway! He's bowled very well for Notts all season, though, and deserves to be taken seriously. What puts him above Mark Davies is he isn't a dibbly-dobbly medium pacer who gets wickets on dodgy wickets at the Riverside. I'm not going to tell you he's the greatest bowler around but he's the bowler who's put Notts (relegation favourites, remember!) at the top the the Championship at the moment. He's still got the hair - reason enough not to pick him (allegedly!). Being a left armer will often go in his favour as it makes him different. At 27 he's a bit younger than the likes of Saggers, Bicknell and Kirtley and Jon Lewis who's 30 in a few months time.

What was good to see yesterday was KP out lbw to his second ball on his return!! He'll probably score a ton in the second innings though!

Mark Davies isn't a dibbly dobbly bowler, just a Fast Medium (like Sidebottom) difference is averages and ages Davies has both on his side, you want a faster bowler Plunkett and Bresnan come to mind both brisk and both can bat as well.

BTW Mark Davies this morning 6 overs 3 maidens 3 runs 3 wickets (including Hick and Solanki)

dibbly dobbly, hmmm
