I have said for a while that I would like to see Chris Gayle at the Riverside, Batting line up of Hussey, Gayle, Collingwood, Benkenstein, Muchall, Pratt, Mustard, Breese, Plunkett, Harmison, Davies anyone? Worth a punt at 20-1 for the CC?

Equally any real quality spinner would be a positive choice.
Well I can live in hope can't I
Breese - the new Giles. Underrated and makes the most of his ability in my opinion. To answer a question he is West Indian and has a cap, but qualified for an English passport and has become a Kolpak player.

Have we been linked with Gayle? That would be something, he's an excellent player and a first pick for the Windies, plus he'd beef up our one-day batting with some big-hitting at the top of the order. Think about a one-day top order starting Hussey (the most consistent one-day batsman around right now), Gayle, Colly and reading on from there.

One more thing - I haven't been keeping too close an eye but are we not taking Ashley Noffke back next year? If not, that would be madness, he was outstanding for us alongside Davies.

I see Middlesex have signed Mohammad Ali.....will they have a "sting" in their tail now?

I'll get my coat....

We were trying to re-sign Mick Lewis because Noffke has a poor injury record and Lewis played just as well. The question comes up though how many top quality seamers can you use. Harmison Davies Plunkett Gibson (with Killeen, and Onions in reserve and Benkenstein and Collingwood both providing strong backup, even Ben Harmison coming through) While in the spin department we are Breese and Bridge (if he is fully recovered).

On a spinners track we look very exposed. We need to close that gap if we are going to seriously challenge in CC1.

In that case Gayle would fit the bill, but are we seriously in for him?

Not as far as I know, just an opinion rather than a tip, if anything I suspect Hussey would try and bring in another Aussie.

This is the page that BBC used for moves and rumours, not sure how up to date it is though.

If we miss out on Langer, and the story has gone quiet, I would like to see us go for Gilchrist as a specialist batsman, captain and mentor to Pipe our new wicket keeper.

Is Kamran Akmal available? If he is he'd be cheaper... better behind the stumps... good enough with the bat.. and interested in developing a long term link with the club. I'd also check out DeVillers ahead of Gilchrist for much the same reason.

If it's captaincy material you want then sign up Younis Khan: he's already Inzi's side-kick and being talked up as a successor in waiting... and he can also 'keep if you're pushed :-)

ps. has anyone signed up Bravo yet? He'd be my affordable pick.

I think the key guys to have next season are Aussies, as they will be pretty much available for the whole season. I'm amazed no-one has picked up MacGill, I know Middx could do with him!

Rachael, like Teatime Fatcat says, the Aussies are likely to be available all season so they are must haves. I don't think an overseas player should play wicket keeper but feel that Gilchrist could do enough with the bat in division 2 to justify his place. He is the Aussie vice captain and could fulfil that role too, possibly from slip.

A few things spring to mind. One: Aren't Pakistan touring here next summer? Two: Younis Khan's brief spell at Trent Bridge during the summer was enough to put anyone off signing him anyway. Three: He certainly bowled leg-spin for Notts, I'd let him do that rather than keep wicket.

Dwayne Bravo would be a useful signing, he's a very good cricketer. County cricket would probably aid his development, too.
