| Transfers / Rumours / Released Players As we are getting to the end of the season teams will start looking forward to 2006, this can be the thread to post and discuss any rumours of possible new signings, and done deals and any players released. To kick us off it is on BBC that Hampshire are releasing Lawrence Prittipaul and Derek Kenway. The report has a less than complimentary quote from Paul Terry saying that 'Derek and Lawrence have failed to grasp their opportunities'. Kenway played 93 first class games for Hampshire scoring 4,382 runs at 29.60 including 7 centuries and 20 half centuries. In one day cricket he played 110 matches scoring 2,616 runs at 26.16 including 2 centuries and 15 half centuries. Kenway was an occasional wicket keeper with 85 catches and 1 stumping in first class cricket and 60/7 in the one day game. Kenway was born in Hampshire and was the Hampshire Cricket society player of the year in 2001. Prittipaul, also born in Hampshire, played less games (23 first class) scoring 975 runs at 28.67 with 1 century and 4 50's. In one day cricket he appeared in 62 games, scoring 564 runs at 13.11 with only 1 50 to his name. He did however take 23 wickets at 38.69. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cric...re/4201656.stm

| Pipe (Worcestershire to Derbyshire) http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cric...re/4207922.stm I'm quite pleased with this, we have acted quickly to fill the gap that Sutton's departure will create. What does everyone think of him?

| Shane Watson back to Hampshire? http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cric...re/4221992.stm Thias move makes sense, especially if he doesn't break into the test squad. |

| Essex release Justin Bishop and Andy Clarke http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cric...ex/4225442.stm Another couple of players been released. Must admit I wouldn't be surprised if one of them ends up at Derbyshire, it'd sum up our backward thinking approach. I will try and do a bit of a run down of their careers so far, although I'm sure Andy can add a more considered opinion when he returns. Justin Bishop - A 23 year old LMF bowler. He has played 25 first class matches scoring 433 runs at 15.46 with a high score of 66 (Bishop has scored a total of 3 half centuries.) He took 57 wickets at 39.43 with a best of 5-148 vs Leicestershire in 2001. In one day cricket he played 23 matches scoring 58 runs at 5.80 and taking 26 wickets at 28.61 with a best of 3-33 and a very commendable strike rate of 31.84. The saddest thing as I see it, about Bishop's release is that he was a succesful England U-19 player circa 1999 who played in the 2000 World Cup in the same England team as the likes of Ian Bell and Alex Louden and against the likes of Graeme Smith and Jacques Ruddolph (SAF) and Danish Kaneira (PAK). His England U-19 career lasted 7 Tests (28 wickets at 24.25 with a best of 7-42) and 8 One Day Internationals (14 wickets @ 24.35). Makes you wonder at what point it started to go wrong for a player who was obviously highly rated. Andy Clarke - 29 year old RM bowler. Despite being 29 has only played 10 first class matches scoring 179 runs at 14.91 and taking 26 wickets at 29.30 with a best of 5-54 vs Glamorgan in 2002. In One Day games Clarke appeared 41 times scoring 63 runs at 5.73 and taking 53 wickets at 24.41 with a best of 4-28. It seems, from the stats, that both bowlers have decent one day records.

| Well, as Tudor was on a pay-per-play contract and did fairly well when he did play, I can't see why Essex would release him... Of course, another county could probably take a risk and put him on a proper contract. No news from Essex HQ, so I would expect him to be retained. He averaged 20.62 bowling in the 3 or 4 games he played. 8 wickets. If he isn't retained, Essex need to make a fast bowling signing. There's a lot of young fast bowlers on Essex's books (Chambers, Westfield and there was another playing against the Aussies the other week) but nothing between them and Tudor and Cowan in age apart from the overseas players Nel, Steyn and Adams. That gap needs to be filled |
