Mark Davies

I have just read the article on the BBC website on this seasons best players in the county. Mark Davies who plays for Durham has took he took 47 wickets at just 15.55 apiece this term. His overall figures in first class cricket after 41 matches, 146 wickets at a amazing average of 21.91 and economy rate that would please any young bowler of 2.88.

This figures would suggest he should be in the England squad but he isn't. I am not a keen follower of the county cricket, so can somebody help me by telling me about his performances. The reasons i beleive he isn't in the International stage is because he bowls meduim pacers which wouldn't be enough for him to take wickets agianst world class batsmen. So would do you think of this player, is he a prospect for England at test level in the future or is he a county basher?

Hasn't he suffered with injuries in each of the last two seasons?

Collyisamackem is the man for Durham info.

Mark has been one of the most unlucky players (and in his case luck rather than his action has been largely responsible) with injuries.

This season he suffered a stress fracture of the lower back (ok could be he needs to remodel his action but read on.) putting him out for the remainder of the season when he had reached 47 wickets.
Last season he suffered a side injury which put him out for the last few matches of the season.

A couple of years before that just as he was breaking in to the 1st XI he was involved in a serious car accident in (multiple fractures and a collapsed lung) it took quite some time for him to recover from that and any problems with his action putting stress on his back a side may well be traceable to the effects of the injuries.

That said I would like to see him spend some time with Troy Coolley and the England techies to analyse his action and hopefully do something about his tendancy to pick up injuries.

Mark may not have express pace but he has shown over the last two years that he certainly has something
Could be an English version of Glenn McGrath who isn't the fastest bowler around either.

I have seen Mark produce some absolutely devastating spells along the lines of 5 overs 4 maidens 3 wickets 1 run this year. I will look forward to the start of next season with Mark, Liam Plunkett (England ODI squad), Steve Harmison, and Mick Lewis (Australian central contract player) bowling as Durhams seam attack until the test series starts at least.
Any of the 1st Division fancy facing Durham on an early season greentop with that lot in harness?

What sort of pace is he? A complete dobber or a more Hoggardian 80-odd mph?

I find this suprising that a person who bowls meduim pacers would get injured so much. It would be understandable for a express pace bowler to injured but its unusaul for a meduim pacer. What is his bowling action like? Whats wrong with it that it gives him so many injuries? Is he just injury prone or is he just unlucky with his action?

Mark needs an academy tour to work on his action with Cooley...he does pick up too many injuries but has tremendous potential at 24. Why he wasn't picked this time is a mystery to me.

I don't get to see Durham that much, so I can't comment with the greatest authority, but that's what I think.

More a sort of Hoggy pace from what I can tell from the boundary.

Like I say I think he is picking up the injuries as a direct result of the more serious car accident related injuries, and I would agree with Colly on this he needs an academy tour and a few sessions with TC to work out where the stresses are in his action and possibly work out where he needs the physio to work to break down the scar tissue.
