Should Flintoff Miss India Tour?

It would appear that Freddie is going to do a Strauss and leave a tour to return home for the birth of his child.Whether this is correct or not people's opinions will differ but i wonder should he even bother going if he is not fully committed to the tour.We saw how poorly Strauss played when his mind was elsewhere and if Freddie does the same then we will once again be taking on tough opposition with only 10 men.

With Freddie, atleast when he's not throwing his wicket away, he is two players in one. In honesty whether you talk of the "if you go on tour, you make yourself available for the whole tour" route or "it's a miracle child birth etc. etc." One thing we can not doubt is that England need Freddie, he's too big a loss for a whole tour and no doubt the ECB will let him go home. How would the side change in his absence?

Looks like England are heading for defeat in India as well. So many players pre-occupied with other things on their mind it seems inevitable. Freddie won't know whether to pack his cricket bag or his pampers.

This is not really news - it's been in the papers for a while, but Cricinfo only picked it up for their front page today, it seems. Plain enough to me: if I were the management, it's full tour or no tour. Up to the player, but no half tours on offer.

That is my feeling too having seen how Strauss was messed up during the tests in Pakistan.I was wondering though whether people would alter their opinions as it is Freddie?

It would be a poor management who left any one man thinking he was indispensible. We can't have one rule for Flintoff and one for everyone else. So my "if I were management" post stands for everyone.

Where'd you get that one from, one rule for Freddie and one rule for everyone else?. You sound confused.

I think it's a personal issue between him his family and the ECB, whats in the papers is just speculation at the moment. I think the last thing players in this position deserve is busybodies on messageboards being busybodies.

Not in the least. I just re-read both my posts and they are completely logically consistent and say exactly what I intended. If I were management, it would be the same rules for everyone: full tour or no tour. No half tours for anyone. End of story.
