If he does well, will you finally accept that on this particular issue you are wrong!!

The boy has something, it has been noted from an early age, and he will be a major player for England. Just wait and see. His stats are much better than Key's, but it only tells half the story, he is potentially a very classy player, with a much better technique and a much better temprament.

As for Vaughan you can drop him, but it would be a huge error, as Coly said, he is class.

Finally, Butcher hasn't retired....

I wouldn't look at Key unless everyone else in contention that we have mentioned is either injured/dropped/retired. I'm not saying he isn't a good batsmen but he hasn't played well in tests and I think his fitness would surely be an issue as well.

Was class! - I think we are hanging on to the fact that he was captain when England won the Ashes mainly due to their great pace attack, more than him being captain.

No I have not long since done a thread about him wanting to come back into the England side.
On a serious point here I think I respect Butcher more than any other player because I remember he could not get into the Surrrey side, but the England selectors still chose him, that selection was inspired, and Butcher responded, I would feel a lot happier with the England side, with him in the team.

I love Butch too (I am a Surrey fan after all) but I wouldn't put him in the team over two great prospects (Bell and Pietersen) and the skipper Vaughan
