| It certainly proves that persistence is evidently a quality of the anti-Jones movement! Quote:
Like I said above, I'm not calling for people not to have a go at all - of course this forum is about debate. Indeed, I got frustrated at Jones and the rest of the team after the ODI disgrace of the last few weeks, but I didn't have a go before the series had started. The point is that I think we should review his performance in more scrutiny after the series, or after each test rather than standing so strongly against them on the eve of a difficult series. I don't think that what is said on cricket forums stays solely on them, and I think it's a good gauge of what people and the media are thinking too. If we lose this or perform badly on a particular day of the test and Jones doesn't perform heroically, guess who'll be getting the bullet first in the papers? I understand that you guys think differently and have every right to, but I am of the opinion that since the side cannot be changed during a test at least, and selectors are loathe to change it during a series save for injury, little good is achieved by criticism that is not made in light of past events. Anyway, mine is only an opinion. I wouldn't seek to repress someone else's so I'll leave it there. |

| That's why more attention should be paid to threads about sandwiches and bottoms - much less contentious, and can be discussed at any time during a test.

| Now you're just making me feel hungry, let's go back to talking about wicketkeepers. :P |

| I hope G.Jones fail mersirable in this pakistan series so it will make way for Read, Read should be in the team, he has earned it by improving his batting. Also Vrock you say that Read has only made good scores against meduim pacers, then what do you have to say about the 150 he made against the Pakistanis? He was the highest scorer in the game.

This was a warm-up game for Pakistan, Mohammad Asif was guaranteed a spot in the first test so I very much doubt he was going full throttle to risk getting an injury. Mohammad Sami's pace has dropped off in recent times, his form isn't exactly magical either and Umar Gul doesn't exactly fire the ball down either. Also, Rob Key himself said that the pitch was flat, so even if the pace bowlers are bowling quick; they won't have been getting the ball to do that much and it would have been easy pickings for the batsmen at times. I do recognise that he made the highest score of the match and that it certainly was a good knock, however, there were many factors in the match which suggest that he would not have been tested to the same extremes of test cricket.

| I seriously doubt that when Jones gets a knock later today it will be in very testing conditions. However, a thirty or forty from him today and we'll all be expected to shut up. |

| G O Jones lbw b Danish Kaneria18 This should be enough to keep him in the side.
