The 'make most members' happy XI:

1. James Benning
2. Mal Loye
3. Ronnie Irani
4. Darren Maddy
5. Kevin Pietersen
6. Paul Nixon
7. Mark Ealham
8. Jeremy Snape
9. Stuart Broad
10. Ryan Sidebottom
11. Nayan Doshi

That is a lot of batting, it definitely bats to the seventh wicket and Broad is no mug either.

We have four openers in the side but I think Maddy, certainly, is much better at finding gaps than either of the openers later on in the innings; especially with his quality sweeping. Ronnie Irani is there as one wicket generally falls quite early on, not always but if that does fail then he can slog it out prettty well.

I was inclined to go with Nixon as keeper because he is a superb keeper for Leicestershire, especially when he pre-empts a 'run-off-the-face shot down to third man and he starts moving before the shot is played. He's taken a few gems diving in both directions with those kind of catches and is much better suited, IMO, to play an innings that will prevent a total collapse.

The bowling attack has a good balance. Two bowlers who will keep it really tight in the early overs and will pick up wickets as well. Then the spinners can come on and really stretch the opposition.

The only problem is, who would be the captain?

Well, despite me being a solid fan of Irani, and being in favour of him being given a go in this side, I wouldn't want him as captain. NE is bang on the money regarding Irani as a leader of men. Will Jefferson's already gone - citing Irani as one of the reasons. Apparently James Foster and Andy Flower aren't happy either.

I reckon Jeremy Snape as captain. Either him or Darren Maddy.
