After a looseish start, Mahmood is now bowling beautifully to both right and left handers. Off stump line, touch of away swing at 85mph+.

Now do it for England.

Lancs are just about shading it so far Sussex 78-6, with some excellent bowling and atrocious running the man factors. England new boy Yardy is the big hope for Sussex now. Mahmood has bowled a good length and caused problems. CMJ might be critical of the umpiring - Robin Martin-Jenkins given out caught when it flicked his pad.

Tom Smith has just been introduced and in the TMS discussion he was being compared favourably with Broad... as was Onions (whose season has been pretty sensational). It's a shame there's only one of the lot playing today... but I'll certainly be interested to see how Smith measures up against Sajid "I might just back myself to hit the back of a bus but don't ask me to bowl at stumps" Mahmood.

ps. I know I shouldn't really have a go at Mahmood when he's just returned figures of 6-1-13-1... but let's face it, Kyle Hogg (how far from touring Australia?) managed 6-1-14-1.

I share your reservations with regard to Mahmood's radar, or lack of. But he does deserve praise for his bowling today. He has got the ball in the right areas 5 balls out of 6, if not more, and has bowled a fuller length. With his natural bounce, he has drawn batsmen forward without allowing them to commit fully to the front foot.

Kartik bowled a beauty to trap Yardy, after pressure from previous delivery. Sussex 147-8.

Thanks to the weather this pitch has not had the chance to flatten out and dry up. Some help for the pace bowlers for once!

Lancs are 79-6 so statistical honours appear quite even. Needing a bit under 5 an over to win.

Mushy is bowling superbly, as usual, figures of 5-1-8-2 and there isn't much spin out there.

James Kirtley bowled well with the new ball although the wicket of Stuart Law was really bad umpiring. A huge inside edge but that's cricket.

Well, like Atherton, I was somewhat crowing earlier on, but Sussex are favouites at the moment. Mushy is bamboozling them with his googly. He likes an appeal if it's anywhere near close, so there could be a few decisions for the umpires to make.

I think this pitch really is poor for a final of a one day tournament at Lords.

Sussex made what I though was a poor 170ish, but Lancashire has faired no better.

I think pitches for such occasions should not favour bowlers, a large crowd likes to see a team chasing a big score.

Which member of TMS keeps on carping about a stumping he thought was out, when 2 umpires said it was in?.

I really wish talkspot would start coverage of cricket again.

Cork seems to be batting well - 94-6 even par if no more wickets.
