Schofield signs for Surrey

For those who haven't seen it.

He still has ambitions to play for England. Who knows, if he actually gets a regular bowl, unlike at Lancs, he may have an outside chance as he's only 27 and can bat and Fletcher likes that.

I am surprised he has got another county after so long, especially such a big one like Surrey. His first problem is keeping a place in the side though as they do have quite a lot of spinners at Surrey.

I was listening on the radio to him bowling against Yorkshire and he returned pretty good figures (economy wise) and picked up a wicket as well.

Although it has taken for Anil Kumble to have to return home with an injury and for Ian Salisbury to also get injured (his knee I believe) so he'll have to perform very well in the short-term to have a hope of a long-term place in the side.

If the noises that came out of Old Trafford were true, then it will take a change in attitude for Schofield to make the most of his ability and resurrect his first class career. A spell out of the first class game, and being a couple of years older, may have helped him to focus of what he wants to achieve, and what he needs to do in order to achieve it.

Dave he did get a regular bowl at Lanc's if my memory serves me right up and until he played for England, and yes he is as good a bat as Giles - he needs confidence and only overs under his belt and wickets will give him that.

I believe it was Nasser Hussain in his autobiography who said he "couldnt bowl a hoop downhill and wasnt a very pleasant lad either".

All the noises were that his attitude was wrong. forget him and look to the future with the likes of Panesar and rashid for some top-quality spin action, methinks.

I hope he makes it - I wish Derbyshire had signed him.

Haven't seen much of Chris Schofield but he is a useful batsman down the order..I remember watching him in the C&G Final a few years ago against Worcester where it was going to end up a tight finish and boy he came in and played a few good strokes. He clubbed the bowlers around hitting a few belters and he looked like he was going to take the game away from Worcester until he hit one down deep mid-offs throat.

Personally, I don't think he will break into the England team because we already have a whole host of spinners already with Panesar, Giles and we also have a big hitting spinner in Blackwell who is similar to Schofield.
