I am deadly serious.

He wimped out in India and since he got his place back he has been pretty ordinary by his own standards. If his mental state is wrong and he gets off to a poor start in Australia what is stopping him walking out again? Therefore we would need an experienced replacement and Butcher fits the bill as he has done well against Australia in the past.

I would love it if Tresco rams my words back down my throat and scores 500+ runs in the ashes series but i can't see it happening and i want a player who is fully focused in the side and not one who is struggling.Look how bad Thorpe performed when he was not mentally right.

He didn't "wimp out" - the man is sick! If he'd played on with a sprained ankle, then quit, would you be more sympathetic?
Mental illness is not wimping out.

Yes, it could have been handled better by him, but when you have mental problems, you do not behave rationally.

Anyway, I'm sure Ramprakash will be selected this afternoon.

If he is so bad then why is he still being considered for the ashes?,and you must be happy having someone who is not mentally right in the squad for a huge series.I am not hence i would prefer Butcher.

I don't know why he's being considered for the Ashes, frankly.

There is no set date for recovering from whatever he has.
I think it would be a mistake to select him for the Ashes, but maybe it's the possibility that's keeping him sane at the moment.

He needs a good break, and should accept that he'll only (possibly) be ready for international duty next summer.

The Australians will - and I do believe this - play on any mental flaws he's got, and this will exacerbate his condition.
