I'm a big fan of Geraint Jones but Read has to be given a fair run in the side to see if his batting comes up to scratch. It wouldn't do the side's confidence any good at all, especially Read, to drop the keeper right at the start of the series.

That's about the way I see it Colly. Read averages 40 (ish) in his last two Tests, dropping him wouldd be so unfair.

Back to the ODIs, I would have another keeper in the VB Series squad, maybe Davies. And I'd play both keepers equally. Whichever performed best would go to the World Cup.

Read has done nothing to deserve being dropped and Jones has done nothing to deserve being selected.

Has to be Read.

All my thoughts are summed up here

1. Read is the man in possesion
2. In Test he has done all that has been asked
3. Jones got a decent run, Read deserves the opportunity to have the same
4. Jones has not made a case for a recall

Read should get the slot IMO, and after the Ashes, if Read fails, I would look towards Davies rather than Jones

That's got to be the way forward. Jones is 30 now and surely we're better off giving someone younger the chance to shine? Davies appears to be the man in favour. Jamie Foster at Essex has to be unlucky but there's obviously something about him that Management aren't quite convinced about. (I remember a few unlucky keepers: Bruce French and Jack Russell could both have played far more Tests than they did; French in the eighties was the best keeper who could bat a bit and Russell in the nineties was so much better than the rest.)

The votes here really speak for themselves! For some reason I do feel sorry for Jones, but in this it's not about fair or anything, it's about who is the best keeper. That's Read.

I agree Read should be given as much time as Jones was given.

I notice we have two votes for Jones. I also notice that neither voter has said why they voted for him!!
