I've voted Vaughan.. but that's nothing to do with past match / series results: he just seems capable of getting the best out of players. That said, I'd have no reservations about Strauss getting the long-term captaincy: he's the most cerebral of the three.

I'm now beginning to think that MPV has been out of cricket for too long and the team is starting to move on. Furthermore, if Freddie captains us to an Ashes win he deserves the permanent captaincy. I was more in favour of Strauss being captain but Freddie has been backed by the management and I'm going to back him now for the country's sake. If he can't handle it in time, and only time will tell, then Strauss is the man. Either way I think we are having to look beyond Vaughan now, despite ridiculous campaigns post-Ashes 2005 that he should have been dropped after his achievements! He has been undoubtedly the best captain England have had for a long, long time but injuries have finally curtailed his captaincy career I think.

I totally agree with ya colly... Vaughns a thing of the past now.. brilliant but over.

Strauss is the future captain of england, the ECB and management will realize their mistake in this years ashes, Flintoff will not be able to retain them.

With the greatest respect Mr Hutt, you cannot be more wrong! The Ashes are ours and will remain so!

Mr Hutt is not the first to make that clanger, Australia are of course trying to regain the Ashes, and Mr Hutt should be made aware they will also be doing just than on their next tour of England .

I have voted Flintoff because I think he is thee most mentaly able, also will Strauss be playing in 4 years time< with Cook and Joyce breathing down his neck - it's tough at the top.

Will Flintoff still be playing then though?

He is a bit injury prone.

Quite possibly, the person who is most likely, out of Strauss and Flintoff, to still be there is Strauss, due to Freddie's injuries. As it is in four years time, I recon that Cook will be the skipper!!

If Flintoff get's through these Ashes and WC games oK - then his op will have been a success, if he ever was as badly injured as we have thoght.

I could so easily reverse the names there! Strauss is more mentally able and likely to be playing in four years' time IMO.
