Read and Foster are both very good keepers. Couldn't comment on Davis as haven't seen him. Steve Adshead does an excellent job for Glos. and Mark Wallace is very talented with the gloves. I'm sure there are more - English cricket is blessed with excellent keepers. It is difficult to excel as a 'stopper' in English cricket because the ball moves so much so talented keepers do generally come to the fore in county cricket.

Agree wholeheartedly with pig-headedness. I have always had a lot of time for Fletcher (for obvious reasons) but he has really annoyed me during the current series. I also happen to think that the selectors chose the wrong captain, but I am not sure that Strauss being appointed ahead of Flintoff would necessarily have affected team selection on tour.

However, nepotism is favouring one's relatives (regardless of their ability) - unless Jones is somehow related to Fletcher then therefore there has been favouritism but not nepotism (pedantic rant over ).

Wallace's keeping is first rate but he is not being helped by playing in a side which seems to have no clue whatsoever about how to play the game for the past 2 seasons .

His batting also seems to have regressed somewhat (probably as a result of him being used as an opener for most of one season and being shunted up and down the batting order ever since).

Look on the bright side surely Jones must now be dropped for good and this must mean that all of the young keepers must be in with a shoutover the next year or so. - I dont think Fletcher rates Read so he will get dropped at the first available opportunity.

You know what Chuckie - you're absolutely right. However, I have a horrible feeling Fletcher will pick him for the next test in order to 'prove us all wrong' whereby, Geraint will score a big ton - when it doesn't matter, and when the series is lost anyway. If he wasn't Papua New Guinean, I'd say he was very English!

Whart odds on England now playing superbly and winning the last two tests?

That wouldnt surprise me in the slightest! Its a bit late selecting the best team and playing well when the series has gone though.

Geraint Jones was apparently lining up alongside the first choice slip cordon in training yesterday....

What odds on Geraint getting the final two Tests... Nixon getting the ODIs and World Cup... with Batty as back-up.. and then Geraint being rehabilitated in the summer ahead of a yet-again overlooked Foster?

Why, why, why?

I would probably put money on that too.

And all the time Read is thinking "what did I do wrong with my 40+ test average this summer?"

I dont know why they took Read to Oz. Fletcher has no intention of selecting him .

Pictures on the BBC show Read keeping in the nets and also batting, but I presume they train all the squad.
