| Possibly irrelevant, but Nixon seems to be everywhere at the moment. Giving interviews on behalf of "the boys", talking about Vaughan's knee, revelling amongst the crowd after the finals victory. He seems to have replaced Geraint Jones as the man who is pushed forward to talk to the press at any given opportunity. If you take out his 49, what would his series average have been?

And, if you consider that, in that 49: 1. He scored much too slowly until the game was dead and buried. 2. He was dropped twice. 3. He should have been given out caught behind ... Then his 49 is pretty irrelevant. There was a piece on him on Sky Sports News this am - going on about how easily he had fitted into the side. What?! He's been useless. If you add a truly pathetic dropped catch into the mix, I struggle to see how he can be considered for the world cup. |

It's a sad state of affairs that sees us selecting someone on his ability to make noise behind the stumps. That appears to be the case. The fact that England have carried off some silverware with him behind the stumps suggests to some that it's been a successful experiment. |

| What is G O Jones average in his latest 10 ODI's, I bet its not half bad!! He should possibly be the pick for the world cup or maybe Read. No1 else should even be considered. |

If that is so, it is possible that against worse teams our under performing 'keeping allrounder will actually score some runs. That is, assuming the upper order don't bat throughout each game. This is, of course, the problem with playing undersnuff double centurians against rubbishy attacks this summer. He will naturally, or at least he should, score hods of runs. However, against the rubbishy attacks of the summer, it could be possible to blood more useful youngsters, like say: Ed Joyce in the middle order. But no, I'm afraid we're stuck with Jacques Kallis' unlikely successor as the most boring* Test all-rounder on the planet. * see Bob Woolmer's instructions for bowling at fast scoring batsmen at the height of their powers.

| Yet again Read will be left out. Nixon isn't even a name for the future - he's a temporary stop gap while they work out who to have as their keeper. I hope Read enjoyed his wasted trip to Australia!

I can't see Nixon going further than the end of this English summer, if not the World Cup (before he gets dropped for the long term 'keeper anyway).

One assumes the next Test eleven will look something like this: Strauss, Cook, Bell, Pietersen, Vaughan, Collingwood, (Duncan's next favourite 'keeper) Flintoff, Plunkett, Panesar, Hoggard. Though I expect I have one too many batsmen there. I think it would be daft to drop Cook. Perhaps Vaughan will open instead of Strauss. Another daft idea. Can't help thinking it might be between Bell and Collingwood, with Collingwood getting the nod on the back of his one day international performances. Another classic daft decision. Still it's only the West Indies, if Collingwood can score 400 against Australia, he should manage about seven thousand against the West Indies. Where's Don Talon when you need him?
