You are presumably working on the assumption that Vaughan's return means something has to give in the top order (currently Cook, Strauss, Bell, Pietersen, Collingwood, Flintoff). My own response would be to drop a bowler: play Flintoff at 7, the 'keeper at 8, Hoggard at 9, Panesar at 10 and one from Harmison / Simon Jones / Anderson at 11.

cant see colly or a bowler dropped really, think Cook/Strauss to open, then Vaughan, KP, Fred, Colly, Read (although i really would like to see Davies), Hogg, Panesar, Harmy and Anderson. Bells gotta go for me, although i a a fan of him, cant see anyone else going.

Read will never play for England again.
Rachaels suggestion has some merit and one i feel should be considered but the selectors wont go for it. On form Strauss should go but the less glamorous Collingwood probably will.

It could be anyone but Collingwood, his performance in the Ashes along with his one day form make him undroppable at the moment.
Strauss has not been in good form so it could be him, but I would go for Bell and have a team of

Cook
Strauss
Vaughan
Peiterson
Collingwood
Flintoff
Keeper (probably run with the geriatric until the end of the summer)
Plunkett/Jones/Harmison/Anderson
Hoggard
Plunkett/Jones/Harmison/Anderson
Panesar

Anderson won't be playing Test cricket. They won't want a yet unknown keeper, Harmison, Hoggard, Panesar and Anderson as a tail. If Jones is not fit, Plunkett will be the bowler.

Another good season for Broad and I see him replacing Harmison next year.

There is the possibility of Trescothick coming back as well as Vaughan. So it might be two players missing out. I think they would go for -

Trescothick, Vaughan, Cook, Pietersen, Collingwood, Flintoff, ????, Harmison, Jones, Hoggard and Panesar.

They shouldn't pick players according to ODI results but if Bell is not getting runs in the World Cup and Nixon is you might find Nixon as the keeper which would be a mistake. If they have decided on not picking Read then they should look at Davies at Worcester. Failing that Foster should be given a chance.

So most would drop Bell, despite that fact that he was the most consistent batter after Pietersen. Collingwood did score more runs, but most of those where is his one big innings, he faded into the distance after that.

If you are going to drop a batter it would have to be Strauss, with Vaughan opening. But I would personally look towards four bowlers, and include the extra batsman.

Collingwoods performance in the ashes? Other than a double century what did he do?

Also, everyone seems to be assuming that Harmy will walk back into the side?
