| The ECB claim to have contingency plans in place for the replacement of ALL ky figures: I take it they also know who would be named as replacement if any of the selectors stepped down. That's nothing sinister... it's just sound management! I've recently become chair of a local pre-school and I only wish we were as organised: our recent "transition" was far, FAR less orderly! | Be interesting to see how he'll do without Mushtaq Ahmed. |

IMO it's the same as what happened with Botham, if he did not go, he would have been sacked. Michael Vaughan has been in the know for some day, in fact he believes Fletcher has done the right thing click here . Quote:

Michael Vaughan goes on to blame the players for not playing for Fletcher, well with the team England took, they could not have done any better. He did not mention that the players have not played for him during this World Cup. You could be right Rachael, but the speed of Moores appointment maked me think Fletcher had no choice but to resign.

It will be fascinating to see how things develop leading up to the 1st test. Will Graveney and Miller survive as selectors? And if not, who will replace them? Will Peter Moores bring any new faces into the back room staff? (Glamorgan have intimitated that they wouldn't mind having Mathew Maynard back, and Kevin Shine's position must be tenuous after the Ashes performances of the bowling attack). How will Moores handle the likes of Flintoff and Harmison (overseas)? Who will get the nod as keeper? Read, Foster or Davies? Will Moores (and the selectors) stick with pretty much the same (Fletcher's) team for the sake of continuity or try to bring in a couple of new faces to freshen it up? The team sheet for the first test will tell us a lot about which direction he is planning on heading in. |

| Rhubarb. This is the england cricket coach job, not a social worker in Lambeth. After witnessing the farce that was replacing Sven in footballing circles, I'm glad and amazed the ECB targeted their man and got him fast. OK, he's not tom moody, dav whatmore or any other exotic foreigner but he is a winner. He did great things at sussex and didnt just turn them into a better side who could "compete" ie come second or third, he won things, and have done consistently. He'll know the younger players who have passed through the acedemy with him, which always helps, and will put boot to ass I think. The current lot benifit from specialised coaches, central contracts and an aceademy setup ready for the next generation. The structure is in place, only the "superstars" who are playing at the moment fancy themselves too much and after a dreadful winter they need someone to sort their heads out rather than any glaring technical deficencies. Moores is the man to do it.
